In loving memory of

Jean W. Milford
August 13, 1920 - March 13, 2018

MILFORD - Jean LaVose (Welcher) Milford died on March 13, 2018. She was 97. Born August 13, 1920, to Clifford and Eleanor (Patterson) Welcher, Jean was a native of Atlantic, IA.

She received her B.S. in textiles and clothing at Iowa State College (now University) in 1942, marking her as a pioneer among women. Jean married Donald Earnest Milford on March 23, 1942. Following their graduation from university and Donald's service in the military, they moved back to Atlantic in 1946 to the farm where Donald had grown up. They and their daughter, Barbara Jean, later moved to Lincoln, NE. For a time, she worked at Miller & Paine, Lincoln's main department store.

Jean brought beauty to everything she touched, whether it was a home, garden, bridge party, or fishing cabin.

She enjoyed the visual pleasures Nebraska and the Plains states offered and encouraged friends and family to visit state parks and ply county roads. She and Donald camped widely across the American West.

Jean was an avid birder who volunteered with the North American Bluebird Society; a proponent of French cooking; and an accomplished golfer and needle worker. She was a member of P.E.O. and the United Methodist Church of Atlantic.

She is survived by her sister, Betty Bowen of Medford, Oregon; brother-in- law and sister-in-law, Kenneth L. and Betty J. Milford of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

A graveside service and burial of cremains will be officiated by the Rev. Brian K. Milford at the Atlantic Cemetery at a future date. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be sent to the Heritage House Good Samaritan Fund, 1301 Brookridge Cir., Atlantic, IA 50022.
