Henry Dean Sorensen
May 23, 1926 - April 5, 2018

Henry Dean Sorensen, 91, of Hampton, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

He was born May 23, 1926, in Clarion, Iowa, to Gerhardt C. and Tora Christine (Hansen) Sorensen. Dean was a high school graduate and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City and Iowa State College. He was united in marriage to Barbara Helen Branan on January 29, 1950, in Hampton, Iowa. Dean served his country in the U.S. Navy, where he was stationed in New York Harbor. He worked as an automobile dealer for 42 years. Dean was a member of Anchor Lodge, El Kahir Shrine and Purple Jester. He was also a member of the motorcycle patrol, Iowa Auto Dealers Association, Hampton Chamber of Commerce and Hampton School Board. Dean was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching auto races and watching all sports.

Dean is survived by his wife Barbara Helen (Branan) Sorensen of Hampton, son Steven Gay Sorensen of Hampton, brother Michael James Sorensen and his wife Connie of Hampton, sister Joyce Elaine (Sorensen) Tinch of San Antonio, Texas, sister Mildred Marie (Sorensen) Factor of Alexandria, Louisiana, niece Tora Christine (Sorensen) Cobb and her husband David of Olathe, Kansas, niece Michelle Jean (Sorensen) Anderson of West Des Moines, nephew Chad Michael Sorensen and his wife Kate of Ankeny, nephew Bret Sorensen and his wife Brenda of Mims, Florida, niece Amy (Tinch) Wood and her husband Chip of San Antonio, Texas, nephew Bruce Beckman and his wife Leslie of Shreveport, Louisiana, niece Nancy (Beckman) Riordan and her husband Bob of Knoxville, Tennessee, nephew Todd Beckman and his wife Sharon of Malvern, Arkansas, niece Lori (Beckman) Bleke and her husband Jeff of Gainesville, Florida, nephew Ron Factor and his wife Sue of Marksville, Louisiana and niece Marilyn (Factor) Saddler of Clear Lake, along with many great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gerhardt and Tora Sorensen, sister Shirley (Sorensen) Beckman, brother John G. Sorensen, brother-in-law Ace Tinch, brother-in-law Merlin Factor, brother-in-law Bill Beckman and a nephew by marriage, Loren Saddler.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Franklin County Historical Society, First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hampton or Hospice of North Iowa.
