Donald W. Shebuski
April 10, 1930 - April 4, 2018

Donald W. Shebuski, of Manitowish Waters, Wis., formerly of Lansing, Mich. died peacefully at home on April 4, 2018 at the age of 87. He was born April 10, 1930, in Antigo, Wis., a son of the late Stanley and Clara (Draeger) Shebuski. He married Lenore Soman on October 4, 1934.

Don graduated from Antigo High School, class of 1948. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees for the University of Nebraska-Omaha and his PhD. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1970.

Don served honorably in the United States Army overseas in the Korean War. After returning home Don resumed his college education and worked his way through college as a fireman, engineer and trainmaster for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad while also playing football at the collegiate level. Upon graduation from college he began a successful career in education serving as a high school biology teacher and coach in Omaha, Neb., and East Troy, Wis. After completion of his master's degree he served as the principal at Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua, Wis. He then worked at D.C. Everest High School in Schofield, Wis. as principal and then as the superintendent of schools for the D.C. Everest School District.

Don completed his doctorate program in Madison in 1970 then served as the superintendent of the Holt Public Schools in Holt, Mich. In 1978, he left the Holt School District to become the superintendent of the Ingham Intermediate School District based in Mason, Mich. During this time he also taught educational administration for Michigan State University as an adjunct professor overseas for the Department of Defense and on the MSU campus in East Lansing, Mich. After official retirement he was asked to serve as the interim superintendent of Catholic Parochial Schools in Manitowoc, Wis. for more than three years.

Don was an active member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Manitowish Waters. He was an avid Model A Ford enthusiast and restorer, and deeply enjoyed his affiliation with the Up North Model A Club. Don was a life-long Green Bay Packers fan and greatly enjoyed attending games with his dear wife. He enjoyed hunting and fishing especially around the Antigo area with his nephews.

Don is survived by his wife, Lenore; and three children, Ronald (Marisa) of Melbourne, Fla. and Bergland, Mich., Joseph (Marie) of DeWitt, Mich. and Susan of Manitowish Waters. Don is also survived by several grandchildren, Ronald Shebuski, Jr, of Green Bay, Wis., Neil Shebuski of Grand Rapids, Mich., Alexander Hook of Mason, Mich., Hanna Den Boer (nee Hook) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; three sisters, Nora Winscher of Hammond, Ind., Audrey (Jack) Ellison of Milwaukee and Karen Renier of South Range, Mich.; two brothers, Jack Shebuski of Wausau, Wis. and Daniel (Gene) Shebuski of Prior Lake, Minn.; and two sisters-in-law, Marlene Shebuski of Antigo, Wis. and Jeanne Shebuski of Hubertus, Wis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Jessica Lott (nee Shebuski); three brothers, Rev. Charles Shebuski, Robert Shebuski and William Shebuski; two sisters, Mae Langenbach and Helen Shebuski in childhood; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Shebuski.

Visitation will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Manitowish Waters on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. lead by Rev. Ron Serrao.
Visitation will also be held in Antigo at the Bradley Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. and Thursday, April 12 from 9 to 10 a.m.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 12 at 10:30 a.m. at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church in Antigo. Antigo veterans will conduct military honors at the church following Mass. Burial will take place in the Queen of Peace Cemetery in Antigo.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to HYF-Dr. Kate Hospice, PO Box 770, Woodruff, Wisconsin 54568 in memory of Don.
