Phyllis Joanne Abbott, 86, died April 5, 2018 at Eagle Point Health Care Center, Clinton, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. April 9, 2018 at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 808 3rd St., Camanche, Iowa with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.
Phyllis was born in Clinton County on July 24, 1931 to Ross and Mable (Edens) Lanphere. She attended school at Prophetstown, Illinois, graduated from Clinton High School and attended college. She married Ross Abbott on November 22, 1953; he died January 28, 1999.
Phyllis taught at Taylor School for the Handicapped in Davenport. She was supervisor of Opportunity for Mentally Handicapped Children, Moline, which was supported by Trisha Hewitt, John Deere's Grand-daughter. Phyllis was park director for mentally handicapped in Rock Island and Moline for several years. She was Camp Director for A.R.C. for Scott and Rock Island Counties. She received many awards for outstanding work with the handicapped. She was auxiliary president for Camanche VFW and served as District President and State Color Bearer. She was president of Fulton Ladies Golfing Association at the Fulton Country Club. She was a member of St. Marks United Methodist Church, Camanche, and the UMW.
Phyllis loved being a Mom to her children, Rick and David, and spending time with her grandchildren, Taylor, Ryan, and Ingrid.
Phyllis is survived by her son, David (Kirsten) Abbott of Charlotte, NC and her grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Ross, and her son, Rick, who died April 24, 2017.
