Dean Cooper
August 26, 1951 - April 7, 2018

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at First Lutheran Church, Algona. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Oakcrest Funeral Services, Algona.

Dean Earl Cooper was born on August 26, 1951, in Algona, son of Earl and Helen (Walker) Cooper. He grew up in Algona, graduating from Algona High School in 1969. He was drafted into the Army on March 18, 1971, where he served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on March 17, 1973. Following his service he was always very interested in the news regarding world affairs. Dean worked for many years in the mechanical engineering department at Cozzini.

On September 25, 1976, he was united in marriage to Jackie Doocy at First Lutheran Church in Algona. The couple lived in Algona where they raised their three children.

Dean enjoyed military history, Nascar, classic cars, skydiving, trapshooting, weather watching, nature and hunting, and flying with his friend Paul. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Dean also had an instrumental part in building and renovating the Military Memorial dedicated to all Veterans in Kossuth County. He was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Dean died Saturday, April 7, 2018 at his home in Algona at the age of 66.

He is survived by his wife Jackie of Algona; three children, Matthew (Amber) Cooper of Johnston, McKenzie Cooper of Johnston, and Mikaela Cooper of Ankeny; father-in-law, Arden Doocy; sisters, Karen Boles of Algona and Linda (Duane) Peter of Algona; step-grandchildren, Kourtni and Kassidi Stumpf; sister-in-law, Rita (Jim) Dahlgren; brothers-in-law, Shannon Doocy and Paul Volk; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Earl and Helen Cooper; mother-in-law, Charlotte Doocy; nephew, Phillip Mergen, and brother-in-law, Shane Boles.
