I was in awe of him as a child (I remember I asked him to come to school with me for "Show & Tell" once when he was home on leave from the Air Force - shockingly, he declined!) I still can't believe he is no longer here with us, but I am comforted knowing he is in Heaven with our parents. McFarland- Robert (Bob) Marks Dettman II, age 73, passed away suddenly at Meriter Hospital on April 11, 2018 after a long battle with heart disease.
Bob was born May 3, 1944 to Laverne and Bob Dettman in Los Angeles, California. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 and spent time in the Philippines to serve his country. He graduated from the University of North Texas with an Accounting degree and was licensed to practice as a CPA. He moved from Dallas, Texas to Wisconsin in 1983 which began his long time love affair with Wisconsin. Bob started at Amtelco in McFarland, WI in 1986 and retired there as Chief Financial Officer in 2017. He loved his small and familiar Amtelco family. Bob was married to Renea Getz Dettman in 1975 and they had two children, who were the apples of his eye and he never missed a chance to express how proud he was of them. He was married to Barbara Dettman (DeVaud) in 2004.
Bob was a loving son, father, brother, and grandpa. He loved to make those around him happy. Nothing made him than more fulfilled than helping out someone in need. He could sometimes be a solitary man, but when he chose to be social he was goofy, silly and his boisterous telltale laugh could be heard across a room. Bob loved reading mystery novels, playing flight simulator, and in his earlier years, tinkering with cars, sailboats, and great big fire trucks.
Bob is survived by his children, Robin Dettman and Robert (Bob/Trey) Dettman III; his granddaughter, Leia Dettman; his sister, Kim Short (Jim); his brother, Mark Henry Dettman (Laquita); and the great loves of his life, Renea Getz Dettman and Barbara Dettman. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of his life will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 5801 Highway 51, McFarland, WI on May 21, 2018 at 12 pm. Visitation will be held from 11 am until the time of service.

"I met Bob many years ago when I was the finance person from Wausau Insurance team, that evaluated the medical billing company that Bob worked for in Dallas. Bob was an honest, intelligent, personable individual who was always helpful to me. He made a number of trips to Wausau as part of the acquisition and he was always helpful eventhough his ongoing job status was not guaranteed. I thought he was hired with a company that bought Wausau's medical billing unit. But then like a lot of situations in life we lost touch. I am truly sorry for your loss. Also, I am sorry we did not connect after all of these years and with me living next door in Fitchburg. May he rest in peace. "
"Bob was my big brother and I always looked up to him. I fondly remember so many times growing up when he would include me in his activities, which was thrilling for someone 9 years younger than him. I remember working on radios with him and remember him picking me up from Jr. High when he was home on leave during the Vietnam War. His kindness to me during my youth continued in his adult years, as he was always anxious to help others in need. I am blessed to have had such a wonderful brother and it is still hard to believe he is gone. But, our Jesus is with us and I look forward to seeing him again one day in Heaven. See you soon, bro. "
