Irene Evelyn Meyer, 94, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 23, 2018, at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton, Iowa.
She was born on July 7, 1923, in Hampton, Iowa, to John D. and Anna E. (Vestweber) Grabbe. Irene attended school in Hampton graduating in 1940.
She married Otto Louis Meyer on February 20, 1944, in Hampton. Irene was a farm wife doing what had to be done and mother to Roger, Sheryl and Sandra. She also worked at the Gold Key Motel cleaning rooms, was a cook at the Hampton Sale Barn and was a cook at the Gold Key Restaurant. She was known for her baking skills, especially pies of all kinds.
Irene attended church at Trinity Lutheran where she was active as a Sunday school teacher and in Ladies Aid.
As time went by Irene became Otto's caregiver until his death in 2010. After that you would be able to find her at the Senior Center playing cards and socializing with her friends. She was in her own home until February 2018 when she moved to Apple Valley Assisted Living.
Irene is survived by her son Roger and wife Pat Meyer of Latimer, daughter Sheryl Thompson of Mason City, daughter Sandra and husband Bob Bice of Mason City, seven grandchildren, one step-grandson, fifteen great-grandchildren and sister Eleanor Keehn of Latimer.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, parents and son-in-law Jim Thompson.
