Marlys Helen Munson
March 26, 1945 - April 24, 2018

Marlys Helen Munson, age 73 of Monroe passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place at Gifford Cemetery at a later date. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the church. The daughter of John and Helen (Snook) Van Maaren, Marlys was born on March 26, 1945 in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Newton High School in 1963. On August 28, 1965, she was united in marriage to Steve Munson at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. She along with her husband, owned and operated Munson Sinclair in Monroe for many years. Marlys was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Monroe Fire Department Women's Auxiliary and Stich n Bitch Club. She loved to quilt and sew and was a master gardener. She spent many hours on the square planting flowers in the spring and also helping with the Christmas decorations.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Steve; two sons, Lee (Ralphi) Munson and Lyn (Pamela) Munson; nine grandchildren, T.J. Sandin, Delaney DeJong, Jac Munson, Hung Tong, Mindi Silich, Haleigh Rees, Paige Munson, Jeremiah Ulrey and Lucas Wells; a great grandchild, Kinder Silich and a brother Bob (Lynn) Van Maaren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
