Herbert D. Mohr
August 30, 1921 - April 26, 2018

SIGOURNEY-Herbert D. Mohr, age 96, of Sigourney, died Thursday, April 26, 2018, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.
Herb was born August 30, 1921, in Victor, to George and Ruby (Smith) Mohr. The family moved to a farm near North English when he was eight and he graduated from North English High School. He then served in the Army during World War II. On June 27, 1944, Herb married Kathryn A. Sloan in Sigourney. She passed on June 27, 1988. Herb worked for his father-in-law at Sloan Monument Company in 1946, then bought the business in 1960, when it became Sloan-Mohr Monument Company. In 1990 he sold the business to his son, Carl. On March 10, 1990, he married Sue Carstens in Sigourney. Herb was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, American Legion for 72 years, Scottish Rite, Cedar Rapids Consistory, Webb Lodge #182 and Aspasia Chapter #198 Order of the Eastern Star. He also served as president of the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association for 47 years. His greatest hobby was singing with the Wapello Chiefs barbershop chorus.
Survivors include his wife: Sue of Sigourney; four children: Carl (Suzi) Mohr of Sigourney, Chris Mohr of Sigourney, John (Denise) Mohr of Sigourney and Patricia Mohr of Adel; five step-children: Richard Carstens of Marion, Amy Carstens of Lincoln, Nebraska, Lara Coffman of Ojai, California, Sarah Carstens of Queens, New York and William Carstens of Richfield, Minnesota; two brothers: Donald Mohr of Denver, Colorado and George Mohr of Madison, Wisconsin; five grandchildren: Mary Ann (Mish) Santa, Maureen (Dusty) Henderson, Julia (Joe) Flaherty, Stacy Mohr and Joshua Mohr; eight step-grandchildren; one great grandson: Alexander Santa and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Kathryn and sister: Joanne Lowry.

Private family funeral service will be held at the Sigourney United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, where there will be a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m.

"Please accept my belated condolences. I was just looking through news from Sigourney. It is hard to lose a dad and I remember your dad most from when I stayed with Ruby Burger back in the old neighborhood in the 70s. He was such a kind person. "
