Velma Rohde Eibs Gunderson was born on August 13, 1925, to Fred and Emma (Rubenbauer) Rohde in Marshalltown. She attended school in Dillon, IA, (LeGrand No 7 Country School) and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1943. She was a gifted athlete, participating in both basketball and softball. Velma was united in marriage to Everett Eibs in 1950 and they made their home on the family farm in rural Laurel. To this union were born three children: Steven, Gregory, and Ricki. Everett and Velma later divorced after 20 years. In 2009, she married Robert "Gundy" Gunderson. They were together for over 40 years, residing in the Marshalltown area. Velma was employed in her early career at the Iowa Veteran's Home, Western Grocer Millis, and REA (Consumers Energy). She farmed with Everett for over 20 years and was then employed at Lennox Industries for over 20 years, which she treasured, retiring in 1991. Velma was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, St. John's United Church of Christ in Haverhill, IA, and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown. She was a member of the UCC Ladies Guild, Lennox Management Club, and Bobcat Estates Board. In her leisure time, Velma enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping, playing cards (500), visiting the casino, shopping at Younkers, and later in life, visiting family and friends, and singing at local nursing homes. But above all else, Velma enjoyed and was most proud of her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Steven (Linda) Eibs, Gregory (Jacqueline) Eibs and Ricki (Dennis) Tuttle; grandchildren Jason (Tiffany) Eibs, Jennifer Eibs, Michelle (David) Atcher, Kendra (Nino Reyes) Eibs, Darcy Eibs, and Jared Eibs; great grandchildren Sean, Kenya, Kaydence, Blaire, Madden, and Easton; sister Arlene (Delmar) Ford; sister-in-law Ronda Rohde; numerous nieces and nephews, stepchildren, step-grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, parents Fred and Emma, and siblings Evelyn, Eleanor, Fred, and LeRoy.

Velma's family wishes to acknowledge the Bickford Cottage family and the staff at Grandview Heights for their excellent care of Velma in her final years.

"So sorry for your loss of dear Velma! Velma was always so good to Edith and was always bringing her food and keeping an eye on her at the condo. She was a strong lady and had lots of stories. She definitely had the gift to gab lol but I always enjoyed talking with her. She will be missed. Prayers and hugs! Sherri Andrews"
