In loving memory of

Becky S. Wells
March 28, 1953 - May 11, 2018

Caring, strong willed, and quiet are just a few ways to describe such a great lady like Becky S. Wells. She had a great sense of humor, a loving heart and was there to listen to you. Her family was her main love, including the love she had for her husband of 43 years, her two children, five grandchildren, three brothers, three sisters and all her nieces and nephews.

Many memorable events took place in 1953 with the end of the Korean War and Queen Elizabeth II being crowned queen of England at the top of the world list. The first Polio vaccine was developed, the first James Bond novel was published, Peter Pan premieres, the New York Yankees won their fifth World Series in a row, the first Corvette car went on sale, transistor radios started to appear for sale and the first color television sets were sold on average of over $1,000 a set. For Thomas and Mildred (Waters) Smith, at the top of their list was the announcement of the birth of their fourth child, Becky Sue Smith on March 28, 1953 as she was born at Lucky Hospital in Wolf Lake, Indiana.

Becky was raised in Wolf Lake along with her older siblings, Cindy, Tommy and Vicki and younger siblings, Tim, Gary and Annie. She was an adventurous girl who enjoyed playing with her siblings, being outdoors and riding ponies. She played the cornet in the school band. She attended Wolf Lake High School until it was closed down and graduated from Central Noble High School in 1971. The following year her life would be changed as she met the man of her dreams.

While picking up an order at Pizza King, Carl Wells saw Becky and asked her out on a date. He was home on a two week vacation from his job in Florida and after that date he was not returning to Florida. The two would be married on August 31, 1974 in Columbia City. They would have two children together, Eryn and Jason.

For over 27 years, Becky drove a school bus for Whitley County Consolidated Schools. She started out as a substitute driver which brought her the opportunity to become full time. Loving all children, she enjoyed her time driving them to and from school. Along with working full time, she was still a full time wife and mother. She also was a member of the VFW in Wolf Lake. Becky was a gifted cook and her family will miss the great meals she made, especially her fried chicken, macaroni pie and mayonnaise cake.

Her greatest gift of being a mother was becoming a grandmother to three wonderful granddaughters, Ashlyn, Addalie and Mekyah, grandson Colten and was looking forward to the birth of another grandson, Liam. She cherished the memories of going to the casinos, being on the lake, the beaches in Myrtle Beach and the Bahamas, going fishing, camping, mushroom hunting and riding with her husband on motorcycles. Becky loved the outdoors. She enjoyed gardening flowers, vegetables and canning. She was a fan of Elvis Presley and visiting Graceland brought her many smiles and memories that would last a life time.

In October of 2017, Becky became ill and her health was never the same. On the morning of Friday, May 11, 2018, her family's lives changed forever. Becky Sue Wells, 65 years old, passed away at 4:09 a.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Wells; daughter, Eryn (Sean Ambrose) Wells, of Columbia City; son, Jason (Cari) Wells, of Columbia City; siblings, Cindy (Dave) McClure, of Wolf Lake, Vicki (Rick) Lawson, of Big Lake, Tim (Jackie) Smith, of Columbia City, Gary (Lisa) Smith, of Albion and Annie (Dewey) Sheets, of Etna; sister-in-law, Vickie Smith, of Albion; and grandchildren, Ashlyn (Brett Radabaugh), Addalie, Mekyah and Liam. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Colten Wells; and brother, Tommy "Butch" Smith.

Visitation is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Funeral Celebrant Sharon Brockhaus officiating. Burial will follow at Wolfe Lake Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be given in her memory to Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana. Visit www.demoneygrimes.com to send her family condolences online.
