"Linda loved her life in Florida. She played pickleball, went out on boats on the Gulf and her beloved Peace River. She loved riding her bike, listening to live music, dancing and playing golf and more golf and more golf. She had a beautiful house with a warm swimming pool. We got the Dachshund Zoey in New York and Scooter here in Florida, they were lots of fun. She loved to go to the casinos and seemed to beat the slots every time. From Florida we travel a lot. Riding a scooter in the streets of Key West, dancing in the streets of New Orleans, climbing mountains in New Mexico, kayaking in Vermont, splashing in waterfalls in New York. And always on the lookout for little hole in the wall restaurants. She certainly did not act her age. Just last year she and my son cut a large tree down and she was the one to climb up to the top. She scurried around a roof like a 20 year old to clean it. She helped all of her Florida neighbors and friends with tasks around the neighborhood. It seemed like there was nothing she could not do. I spent her last four months with her day and night. It was a honor to do so. Love, love, kisses and hugs. I am going to miss you girl. Sue"

Linda McCormick "Corm" Gardner, 73 passed on Easter Sunday April 1, 2018, in her Port Charlotte, FL home surrounded by those she loved. Linda was born on May 18, 1944 in Surry County NC to the late Joseph Woodson and Della Tharing-ton McCormick. She graduated from Surry Central High School in 1962 and was awarded Northwest All-Star in Basketball. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Appalachian State Teachers College and her Masters of Science in Safety and Driver Education from North Carolina A & T State University. Linda spent the Majority of her 30 years teaching/coaching career in Yadkin County, NC School System. One of her most outstanding accomplishments was creating the Girls Athletic Programs at Forbush High School. Coach Corm's sports dynasty Conference, Regional & State wins had become one of the most respected in NC.
Another notable achievement, Linda became one of the 1st women to serve in the Army National Guard of NC in 1973-75. She was married to Jim Gardner from 1992 till 2002. During retirement she worked as a Golf Course Ranger at Tanglewood Park in Winston Salem, NC and later moved to Florida in 2013. Linda's passion included a love for Elvis, playing and/or coaching sports, especially an adult Softball team, the MG's college basketball, working outside in her yard and any number of DIY projects. She also spent most of her lifetime lovingly caring for her several dachshunds. Linda was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy A. McCormick and Nancy Marie (McCormick) Brown; and nephews, Kenneth W. Danner and Richard J. Danner. She is survived by her sister, Luralene Danner; and niece Kathy Marie (Brown) Cobucci and Anita Carolyn Brown) Cayton.
