Williamsburg-Betty Ann Schindler was born March 4, 1932 near Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Julius and Anna (Wetjen) Buser. She graduated from Hilton Consolidated School in Conroy and Paris Academy in Cedar Rapids. Betty was united in marriage to Paul Willard Schindler on October 2, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Betty was a Beautician for over 50 years. She enjoyed collecting elephants, glass slippers, Betty Boop memorabilia, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was very active in the Republican Party and a member of the Iowa Board of Cosmetology. She was also a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Womens Guild. Betty passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Colonial Manor in Amana at the age of 86 years.
She is survived by three children: Rick (Kathy) Schindler of Phoenix, AZ, Tamara Schmugge of Charlotte, NC and Tonya Strasser of Cedar Rapids; 6 grandchildren: Danielle (Corey), Derek, Kaitlin, Kylie, Ava and Alana; a sister-in-law: Lucille Buser of Williamsburg and many nieces and nephews . She is preceded in death by her parents, husband in 2000, two brothers: John Buser and Robert Buser and a sister: Geraldine Lackender.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home. Memorials are for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lutheran Interparish School or Essence of Life Hospice. "Sending my sympathy to Betty?s family. Betty & my mom sat at the same table for meals at Colonial Manor so I got to know Betty a little bit. She seemed to always know when certain activities were & I think she looked forward to them. Sometimes she?d be working on a word puzzle while they were waiting for their meal to be served. I remember how excited she was for her last birthday. She told me her family was coming for a party. The last time I saw her she was enjoying some time outside with other residents. She asked me to get her a snack out of her bag on the back of her wheelchair. I was happy to be able to help her. I will miss seeing her when I go visit my mom. I think my mom will miss her too.
