In loving memory of

Leland Clyde King
February 12, 1931 - April 22, 2018

Leland Clyde King age 87 of Loveland, Colorado, passed away on Sunday, April 22nd, 2018. A memorial service will be held at the Loveland Church of Christ, 4100 South Taft Avenue on May 4th, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.
Leland was born February 12th, 1931 in Agra, Kansas, the son of Clyde and Edith (Claar) King. He lived the first seven years of his life in Agra and Phillipsburg, Kansas. In 1937, the family moved to Oregon and then to Colorado for a few years before returning to Kansas. Leland graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1949 and then attended Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina. During this time Leland decided he would like to become a gospel preacher and so he transferred to Fort Hays Kansas State College.
At the end of that school term he experienced one of the happiest times of his life - his marriage to Mildred (Millie) Crown of Agra Kansas on May 27th, 1951. During that summer, Leland worked In the Kansas wheat harvest (to make some big money) and then he and Millie moved to Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, where Leland began preaching for a congregation of the Church of Christ.
Their time at Cottonwood was shortened by a call from Uncle Sam. Draftees were needed for the Korean War. Leland was drafted on November 5th, 1951. At the induction center he was given a choice of which branch of service he preferred - he chose the Air Force and the next four years were spent in the military, including one year in South Korea. Millie did her best to be a good military wife, which was often difficult - especially when their oldest son (Ron) was born just five months before Leland shipped out to Korea in September 1953.
After being discharged from the USAF they returned to Cottonwood Falls where Leland again preached for the local congregation and where he finished his college studies at Emporia State University. Leland accepted a teaching position with Jefferson County Schools in 1958 where he continued to teach for 30 years in Wheat Ridge and Arvada. His whole life was dedicated to preaching and teaching. He retired from Jefferson County Public Schools in 1988. He enjoyed teaching Bible classes in the church, in his home, and in the homes of others all over the North Denver Metro Area. He continued to do so after retiring from Public Education, accepting full time work as an elder with the Northwest Church of Christ in Westminster.
In 1998, due to health problems and a need to curtail work responsibilities, Leland and Millie moved to Loveland where they spent their retirement years.
Leland and Millie were happily married for 62 years; she preceded him in death October 31st, 2013. Leland was also preceded by his parents Edith and Clyde King, and siblings Janice Otis, Loren King, Myron King, and Donna Bradford. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Ron and Donetta King of Loveland, Larry and Meda King of Castle Rock, Sandy and Dale Dowling of Nashville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Amy, David, Jody, Dennis, Tyler, Emily, Andy, and Sarah.
The family of Leland would like to thank the staff at Lakeview Commons Assisted Living, McKee Medical Center, Banner Medical Center Fort Collins, Visiting Angels, and Pathways Hospice. Memorial contributions may be made to Pathways Hospice of Larimer County, 305 Carpenter Road, Fort Collins, CO, 80525 and Mountain States Children's Home, 14780 N. 107th Street, Longmont, CO 80502.
