Jacqueline Marie Templeton

Jacqueline Marie (Davies) Templeton went to be with her Lord on May 26, 2018 from her home in Robin Run Village in Indianapolis. Jackie was the devoted wife of William Howard Templeton and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 21 of this year. The youngest of four children, she was born to David and Martha Davies in Detroit, Michigan on March 25, 1929. Her parents, brother David, and sisters Catherine and Vivian all preceded her in death.
Jackie's family was her proudest accomplishment and she was a loving, protective and fiercely loyal mother and wife. She is survived by her husband, Bill, children Karen Templeton-Somers (Scott), William Templeton (Linda) and Jeffrey Templeton (Susan). She has nine grandchildren: Jeff, Libby, William, Evan, Ben, Kate, Carrie, David and Becky. She also has eight great-grandchildren: Mia, Emery, Hans, Benjamin, William, Ezra, Zack, and Jack. She once wrote that her family are accomplished, loving, generous and responsible people whom she would be proud to have as friends even if they were not related.
Jackie was very involved in civic and church organizations, and was an active member in Methodist or Presbyterian congregations wherever she lived. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church of Indianapolis for 29 years. Jackie was past president of the Indianapolis Council of Women and the Clowes Memorial Hall Women's Committee, and was a Chair of the P.E.O. State Convention. She was a graduate of Washington Seminary for Women (Pa.) and the Pennsylvania College for Women, now known as Chatham University. She earned a Master of Arts degree in Education from Case Western Reserve University.
Jackie grew up in Michigan and Pennsylvania, and after their marriage, she and Bill lived in Pennsylvania, Ohio and for many years in Indianapolis. She taught elementary school in Findlay, Ohio. Jackie travelled in Europe and spent several months on sabbatical in England with her family.
A talented musician, Jackie sang on local radio shows, in church choirs and, as a young woman was a soloist at many weddings. Her love of music was a legacy to her children and grandchildren, and her ability to "Name That Tune" was well-known even in her later years. Jackie was an avid reader ("A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" and "A Child from the Sea" were favorite books) and she loved her pets, gardening, needlework and Butler University basketball.
Jackie was dearly loved by family and friends and will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held in the Community Room of Robin Run Village at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 16. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to one of Jackie's favorite charities: St. Joseph's Indian School serving Lakota Sioux families in South Dakota (stjo.org\donate), or Clowes Memorial Hall Education Fund at Butler University.
