"I have lost an old and dear friend but will have memories to keep forever. May you rest in peace. Love, Juanita Bartlett"
Born November 3, 1944 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Judy Ann Gunnarson was the daughter of Milton Edward and Maxine Mary Jane Gunnarson. Raised in Tulsa, Judy attended Bryant Elementary School, Hamilton Junior High and was a 1963 graduate of Nathan Hale High School. Following high school, she furthered her education attending Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where she found love in Loyd Mitchell. The two married and had a daughter, Michelle (Shelly). Although this marriage came to an end, Judy was lucky to later find love again. This, when she met and fell in love with Loren Dale Sunday. This newly formed family would again grow as they welcomed a baby boy, Loren, II.
A wife and mother, Judy also worked outside of the home helping to support her family as she became an employee, and then office manager, for Eastern Oklahoma Orthopedics. Judy certainly enjoyed her job; however, there was nothing that brought her more joy than nurturing her family relationships. When not at work, Judy could be found reading, shopping or taking long (and sometimes fast) drives into the middle of the night. To say that Judy was an avid reader is an understatement. She would usually read a novel per night and often had two to three going at the same time - her favorites being mysteries.
In November of 2002, Judy joined Loren, Sr. as a member of Bethany Freewill Baptist Church where they loved their church family. Also, she and Loren enjoyed getting away to Greenleaf State Park. Even after Loren's passing, Judy continued that tradition with other family and friends.
Spoiling her grandchildren, Taylor and Trey, who affectionately referred to Judy as 'Mimi' was also on Judy's list of things to do. She and Trey took many trips over the years and when Taylor was young, 'Mimi' loved taking her to garage sales and shopping at the 'Old Will Store' where they would buy many 'treasures.'
Judy and Loren, Sr. also loved their fur babies, Daisy then Bunny, who brought Judy much comfort after Loren's passing. More recently, she added another standard poodle to her home, Annie.
A great 'Mimi' and a great hostess, Judy loved entertaining her family and friends. She and Loren were known for their Fourth of July celebrations with wonderful food, friends, family and lots of fireworks. Most other holidays were also spent at their loving home.
Loving, gregarious, a survivor, generous, funny, and a bit stubborn are all words that have been used to describe Judy. This loving wife, mother, sister, 'Mimi' and friend was loved by many and she will certainly be missed by those she leaves to carry on her legacy.
Judy passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018 in Tulsa. She was 73.
She is survived by: her children: Shelly Morgan and husband, Dr. Bill Morgan of Tulsa; son, Loren Sunday, II of Bixby; grandchildren: Taylor Morgan and Loren Sunday, III (Trey); a brother, Milton "Gunny" Gunnarson, Jr. and his wife, Sue along with other dear relatives and a multitude of friends.
The family suggests memorial donations be gifted in Judy's memory to the John 3:16 Mission; 575 N. 39th West Ave., Tulsa, OK 74127.

"Even though we never met Judy we loved her dearly. She had the greatest smile and sense of humor. Seeing her on Facebook brightened our day and when we spoke on the phone we felt like family. She will be greatly missed by so many. Lynda Underwood and Brenda Weeks "
