In loving memory of

Richard Noel Hood
December 25, 1929 - June 1, 2018

Richard Noel Hood, "Dick" age 88, of Ambler, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2018 in the Holy Redeemer Hospice, his loving family by his side.

Born in Philadelphia on Christmas Day 1929, he was the son of the late Robert and Rosa (nee Meehan) Hood.

Twin Spring Farm Day Camp was founded in 1945, by Beatrice H. Randal and Richard N. Hood. By 1947, their successful camp program had quickly outgrown its Blue Bell home, and settled into its current location in Ambler. After college graduation, Beatrice and Richard were married. Richard joined his family business, Thomas B. Meehan Nursery, where the Fort Washington Industrial Park stands today. He joined the nurseries as his interest and landscape architecture came naturally.

In 1952, the Twin Spring Farm Day School was founded. The facilities continued to expand to accommodate the growing school and camp enrollment, and Richard returned to join Beatrice at Twin Spring Farm Day Camp and School full-time. He became an integral part of the daily camp and school programs. As the facilities expanded, Dick oversaw these projects and even provided his own labor with their completion. He also enjoyed raising trees and shrubs for TSF, many of which are still there today.

Dick was a member of the South Eastern Pennsylvania Garden Railroad Society SEPGRS. His hobby was trains of all sizes over the years. He provided train displays for the students of TSF. He enjoyed model making for the displays. He enjoyed flowers and gardening and maintained an orchid greenhouse. He loved football and was an avid sports enthusiast. Dick was also a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. Always a patriot, Dick wanted to explore America. The family traveled the country by motor home, visiting all the national parks and cities in the United States. When Disney World opened in Orlando, it became Dick's home away from home and a special place in his heart. He enjoyed taking his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to that magical place. He always loved to share his love of Disney with everyone.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Beatrice (nee Randal) Hood. He is the devoted father of Wendy L. Schermerhorn (David) of Steamboat Springs, CO; Richard N. Hood, Jr. (Lucia) of Maple Glen; David R. Hood (Anne) of Steamboat Springs, CO; Stephen D. Hood (Cheryl) of Camden, SC; and Karen E. Salvatori (Domingo) of Maple Glen. Richard is the proud grandfather of William N. DuRant (Hope), Melissa (Hood) Kutz, Chas C. DuRant, Kathryn J. Constantine, Richard (Buddy) N. Hood III (Ashley), Christopher G. Hood, Edwin J. Schermerhorn II, Timothy R. Schermerhorn, Brianna B. Salvatori, and Téa A. Salvatori. Richard was also blessed with 10 great grandchildren, Kyler Kutz, Ryan Kutz, Charles DuRant, Kimberly DuRant, Julia DuRant, Thomas Durant, Brynn Roth-Lackman, Blake Hood, Kylie Hood, and Olivia Hood. He is the dear brother of Roger Allen Hood and his wife Kathi, and was predeceased by his brother Robert L. Hood Jr. and his wife Helen, and Thomas M. Hood and his wife Dorris.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 16, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Anton B. Urban Funeral Home, 1111 S. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA. Richard's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM at Saint Thomas Church, 610 Church Rd, Flourtown, PA 19031. Rev. Marek Zabriskie and Rev. Dyan Lawlor will officiate. Interment will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Following the interment, relatives and friends are invited to a reception at Old York Road Country Club, 801 Tennis Avenue, Ambler.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard's memory may be made to Give Kids the World, an organization that provides a week for terminally ill children at Walt Disney World, 210 South Bass Road, Kissimmee, FL 34746 www.GKTW.org
