In loving memory of

Sharon Yarolem
April 3, 1943 - December 12, 2017

Sharon Lavon Yarolem died at home surrounded by her loved ones in Beech Island, South Carolina on December 12, 2017.

She was born to Ralph Nabb and Hazel (Nabb) Lopresti on April 03, 1943 and grew up in Maquoketa, Iowa and became a graduate of Maquoketa High School, Class of 1962.

She married Wayne Yarolem in 1964 and became a homemaker raising their family initially in Maquoketa and then across small town America. She was a devoted wife that supported her husband's 26 year profession in the US Air Force.

Filled with compassion and interest of others, Sharon graduated from Arizona's school of nursing where she became a licensed practicing nurse. She truly cared about people and was known to her friends and family as "care-n-Sharon". She devoted many years of service to home health care and the Andrew Jackson Center while caring for others.

She loved to travel - Thailand and Egypt was her favorite spot, Philippines too. Family and Friends were visited from Colorado to Oklahoma, Indiana to Iowa. Dreams of traveling across South west Asia and a cruise to South America were never realized, but the dreaming was fun.

Sharon's hobbies when not traveling were farming, camping, fishing, embroidering, sewing and keeping up on Facebook with her friends. Sharon was never happier than when she was in the company of animals: dogs (Sissy, Dewey, and Didi), and especially horses. She loved the sportsmanship of horse competitions and eventually went to the 2016 Paint Horse World Championships in 2016.

Once diagnosed with lung cancer six months ago, Sharon Lavon Yarolem never gave up. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future - even through countless biopsies, radiation treatments, x-rays, hospitalizations and pain. She continued to be involved in her children, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren lives.

Sharon is survived by her husband, LtCol. (Ret.) Wayne Yarolem, her three children: Andre' Dohrn of Beech Island SC, Brian Yarolem of Greeley CO, and James Yarolem of Davenport IA, and her sisters Connie Shanahan of Larkspur CO and Bonnie Clark of Maquoketa IA, with 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren and several fond nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and adult son Brent Yarolem.

The urn that Sharon's remains will be held in nicely sums up, in one sentence, how fondly she will be remembered: Our Angel that lived, laughed, and loved.

Sharon (Nabb) Yarolem's graveside memorial/internment service will be held June 11th at 2:00 pm at the Hickory Grove Cemetery west of Emeline. She passed away December 12th of last year in Beech Island SC. Following the service, family and friends are invited for a celebration of life luncheon (reminisce of days gone by) at 20303 175th Street Maquoketa, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Sharon's name at the Jackson County Humane Society, 23354 Dark Hollow Rd, Maquoketa, IA 52060.
