IOWA CITY - Gary Shettler was born November 3, 1941,in Washington County near Wellman, Iowa, the son of Earl and Mary Elda (Slaubaugh) Shettler. He was baptized in his youth at the Wellman Mennonite Church. Gary lived in the Coralville and Iowa City area and worked in the supply room at the University of Iowa Hospital for 37 years, retiring in 2002. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Gary passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2018, at Iowa City Rehab and Health Care Center in Iowa City at the age of 76 years.
Gary is survived by 2 brothers: Cecil Shettler of Wellman; Kermith (Sharon) Shettler of Sigourney; 2 sisters: Mary Shettler of Iowa City, Rachel (Craig) Koehler of Washington; 3 sisters-in-law: Mary K Shettler of Columbus Junction, Sandra Shettler of South English, Rose Shettler of Cold Water, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ruth Ann Shettler, and 3 brothers: Donald, Carl and Fred.
A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. The Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Wellman is caring for Gary and his family.
