Alan D. Olson, 73, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Monday, May 21, 2018 at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa.Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. Pastor Jon Meredith will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be after 4:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.Alan Dale Olson was born November 25, 1944 on a farm near Irwin, Iowa, the son of Bertram and Thelma (Monson) Olson. He attended school in Irwin and graduated from Irwin High School. He attended college in Maryville, MO for two years. Following college, he went to work for Harlan Builders in Harlan, Iowa.He was united in marriage to Sally Wiuff on April 24, 1968 in Maryville, MO. Shortly after they were married, Alan entered the United States Army National Guard and was stationed at Fort Carson, near Colorado Springs, CO. He and Sally made their home in Colorado Springs while he served his country. Following his honorable discharge, they returned to Harlan, Iowa, where Alan continued working with Harlan Builders. In 1970, they moved to Le Mars. Alan remained in sales with Harlan Builders until retiring, so he could take care of his wife. Sally passed away July 15, 2004.Alan was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Le Mars where he sang in the church choir and served on the trustee board and the building committee for the church. He was also a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241. Through the years, Alan enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and Sally also enjoyed traveling to different conventions and seminars across the county for his job. But most of all, he loved the time spent with his family, especially his grandsons.Survivors include a son: Shawn (Becky) Olson of Le Mars, Iowa, and their sons, Bryce and Brett; two brothers: Dean (Joyce) Olson of Minden, IA, and Dave Olson of Lake Parks, IA; two sisters: Cherrie Wiese of Topeka, KS, and Wanda (Ron) Sabby of Wallingford, IA; his in laws: Sue Olson of Des Moines, IA, Connie (Larry) McDermott of Harlan, IA, and Luann (Jon) Hansen of Harlan, IA; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally; and his siblings: Stephen Olson, Duane Olson, Clyde Olson, and Helen (Tom) Merritt.
