Robert A. Sommers, 82, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away June 5, 2018. He was born February 21, 1936 in Albany, NY to William and Mary Sommers. He served in the US Air Force for 3 years, 7 months, 29 days and retired as a Terminal Supervisor with the Mobil Oil Corp. after 28 years. Bob was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the New York Forest Owners Assoc. He was a wine & beer enthusiast, a steam engine railroad hobbyist, and had a strong affection for cats.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Ruth M. Sommers (Winter); daughters, Kathleen M. Sommers (Mark Dorogi) and Christine M. Sommers (Alan Hecker); granddaughters, Zoe C. and Ariel C. Dorogi; younger brother, Edward M. Sommers. He was pre-deceased by his infant daughter, Amy Elizabeth, his parents and his older brother, William J. Sommers.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Monday June 11, 2018 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 2500 Easy St., Port Charlotte, FL 33952. A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in the Town of Tonawanda, NY later in the week.
