Merle E. Moore
August 27, 1931 - June 7, 2018

Merle Eugene Moore was born August 27, 1931, to Evelyn Mae Castler Moore Schmidt & Otis G. Moore. He attended school in the Algona Community School system and was drafted by the Iowa National Guard his junior year and was stationed in Germany from 1946-1950. He played semi-pro football for the service. Merle returned home to marry the love of his life Marilyn Ruth Barton on October 20, 1951. In 2000, Merle and 3 other men with the Iowa National Guard were honored at the Algona High School graduation ceremony where they received their high school diplomas.

Merle worked for Winter Construction, Miller Lumber Company, and then started Merle Moore Construction where he was the maintenance man for Maple Park Apartments. Merle also did many jobs for private customers and did lots of handy work on his 3 children's homes, doing everything to perfection.

Merle was an avid golfer, and had 7 holes-in-one. He spent many Thursdays at River Road Golf Course with a multitude of friends. Merle & Marilyn spent many early morning enjoying Gods beautiful splendor going for golf cart rides. Merle was a faithful member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post # 2541 of Algona.

Merle & Marilyn owned a home in Apache Junction, AZ where they wintered for many years. They also owned time shares in Okoboji and Branson, MO. Many special memories were made when their children & grandchildren visited.

Marilyn preceded Merle in death on Memorial Day, May 30, 2011. In 2013, Merle entered Windsor Manor where he touched many lives with his kind and loving personality, he stayed there until the early part of 2017. He then entered the Algona Manor and once again made special friendships and touched many lives with his loving personality. Merle passed away at the Algona Manor on Thursday, June 7, 2018, with his daughter Angie Baker and special friend Jean Lockwood at his side.

Merle is survived by a son, Gordon Merle Moore (Tanya) of Silver Thorne, CO: a daughter Angela Kay Baker and friend Derek Householder of Fenton; a son-in-law Craig Ziesman of Scottsdale, AZ, daughter-in-law Carol Moore of Phoenix, AZ; a sister-in-law, Barb & Clarence Metzger of Algona; a brother, Lynn Schmidt of New Jersey; and special friend Jean Lockwood of Burt. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Sara Ziesman Gall (Trent), Emilie Ziesman, Katie Ziesman(Alex Parise), Brittney Moore, Amanda Moore, Whitney Baker, Zack Divis, Haley Baker, Dakota Baker, and Kaden Baker; 5 great-grandchildren, Sawyer Gall, Avery Gall, Landon Hagedorn, Tate Hagedorn, and Nadiya Hagedorn; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Mae Schmidt and Otis G. Moore; his wife, Marilyn Ruth Moore; a daughter Nancy Ann Ziesman; a son-in-law, Scott Alan Baker; a grandson, Brandon Divis; her sisters, Betty Moore Schneider and Linda Schmidt; and brothers Eldon Moore & Delbert Moore.
