Wanda May Rahto
May 24, 1924 - June 10, 2018

Wanda May (Jacobs) Rahto was born in Story City, Iowa, May 24, 1924; and peacefully passed away at Israel House Hospice on June 10, 2018, after a short illness. A gathering of friends and family will be 4-6:00 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2018 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way Ames, Iowa with a celebration of life memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday June 19, 2018 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care.

Wanda was born and raised in Story City, Iowa. During WWII she married Ronald Rahto, and during their early years of marriage they lived on a farm northeast of Randall. They later moved to Story City where she lived for many years, and she resided the last 25 years in Luther, Iowa.

Wanda loved animals and enjoyed the companionship of many cats, dogs and horses over the years. All holidays were special to her and decorating for each was a high priority. Wanda was also known for her cake decorating and she made many wedding and graduation cakes throughout Central Iowa. In addition to her children, Wanda also raised several foster children.

Wanda also participated in several activities where she made many friends. She spent many enjoyable years as a member of the Song Birds and with Senior Bowling teams. Patriotism was an important part of her life and she was a long-time member of the Story City American Legion. She was a life-long member of Pleasant Grove Church and a member of the Sheffield Cemetery Society for most of her adult life.

She is survived by her children: Robert (Bob) and Jane Rahto, Tim Rahto, Linda (Rahto) Kokemiller, Becky (Rahto) and Steve Hermanson. Grandchildren: Donovan (Gwen) Stevens, Jana Berka and Ronda (Rich) Trippett; 5 Great Grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Donna (Martin) Jacobs.

She was preceded in death by Ronald Rahto (husband), Janine Rahto (daughter) and David Kokemiller (son and law). Also, Wanda was the last surviving member of a family of 8 children: Ethel (Lyman) and Martin Jacobs (parents); 4 sisters: Emma (Martin) Martinson, Dorothy (Glen) Keltner, Norma (Fred) Keltner and Thelma (Orland) Johnson; and 3 brothers: Martin (Donna), Frank (Alma) and Henry (Eileen) Jacobs.

Wanda will be missed by her immediate family and her extended family of friends and relatives.
