Galen Viet
September 11, 1933 - June 12, 2018

Galen LeeRoy Viet, 84, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the Rehabilitation Center of Hampton.

He was born September 11, 1933, in Dumont, Iowa, to Pete and Arlean (Hopkes) Viet. Galen graduated from Hansell High School. He was united in marriage to LaDonna J. Froning on June 2, 1952, in Hampton, Iowa. Galen worked at various jobs; from delivering eggs, to farming, to working for Chamberlain Trailers. He started at Maytag where he followed them to Newton and later retired. Galen was the Representative for the local UAW Union and NRA life member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and camping with his family; especially his grandchildren.

Galen is survived by his children Dennis Viet, Randy (Holly) Viet, Crystal (Jeff) Meints and Debra (Tony) Plagge; grandchildren Jenifer (Brian) Murphy, Ryan Viet, Jeramy Viet, Brandon (Joan) Viet, Brianna Viet, Mikaela Viet, Derek Meints, Sierra (Hunter) Brunsvold, Kyle Meints, Jordan (Sadie) Meints, Justin (Taylor) Meints and Ashley Plagge; great-grandchildren Emma, Lauren and Aiden Murphy, Baylee Viet, Lincoln Viet, Harber Viet, Estella Rodriquez, Xander, Gunner, Elena and Silas Brunsvold, Olivia and Abe Meints, Anna, Jack, Charlie and Benjiman Meints, and Elijah Barnhart; brother Ronald (Beverly) Viet; sister Sharon Uhlenhopp; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Arlean Viet, wife LaDonna (Froning) Viet, brother Gerald Viet, sister-in-law Kathryn Viet, father and mother-in-law Raymond and Vera (Wells) Froning, sister-in-law Margaret (Dallas) Froning-Philpott, brother-in-law Cecil (Norma) Froning, sister-in-law Delta (John) Folkerds, brother-in-law Delton (Marjorie) Froning and sister-in-law Shirley (Verlon) Siems.

"Oh, my "twin" is gone! I have to admit it was his idea to start calling me his twin since we shared the same birth date. I loved it! Your parents were the best--ALWAYS welcomed me into their home both in Hampton and Clear Lake. I have MANY lovely memories of those times."
