"Barbara was our first child's (one and only) babysitter. She always was willing to help and when our barn burned to the ground she was right there offering to bring the meal for the workers. Yes, she was a very good cook and was willing to offer those talents. She will be greatly missed by everyone that came in contact with her."

KALONA - Barbara W. Weaver was born December 25, 1954 in Centerville, Michigan, the daughter of William LeRoy and Marjorie (Schlabach) Bontrager. On June 19, 1975, Barbara was united in marriage to Simon Weaver in Kalona. She was a member of the Sharon Bethel Church and sewing group. Barbara was an excellent cook and had a gift of hospitality, she enjoyed serving the needs of others in the community. She enjoyed spending time with family especially the grandchildren. Barbara passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at her home in rural Kalona.
Barbara is survived by her husband Simon, two daughters: Mary Beth (Kenneth) Miller of Wellman and Rebecca Anne Weaver of Kalona; six grandchildren: Dustin, Trevor , Christopher, Mariah, Wyatt and Layla Jo Miller; her parents LeRoy and Marjorie Bontrager of Hicksville, OH; five brothers: William (Nina) Bontrager of Millersburg, IN; Melvin (Marie) Bontrager of Hicksville, OH; Marlin (Luella) Bontrager of Topeka, IN; Firman (Pauline) Bontrager of Ashley, IN, and Vernon (Beth) Bontrager of Leo, IN, three sisters: Lydia(Melvin) Yoder of Hicksville, OH; Christine (John Henry) Hochstetler of Goshen, IN; and Annie (Rueben) Knepp of Montgomery, IN. She was preceded in death by a sister Irene Bontrager, a niece Mary Knepp and a nephew Steven Hochstetler.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Fairview Mennonite Church, rural Kalona. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona on Wednesday from 2-8 PM with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and will continue on Thursday from 10AM until 8PM with the family present for 10-12, 2-4 and 6-8 PM. A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is caring for Barbara and her family.
