June Knepper Garrison
January 18, 1926 - June 12, 2018

FORT WORTH - June Knepper Garrison, 92, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
June was born Jan. 18, 1926, in Fort Worth to Roy Frederick Knepper, Sr., and Grace Lee Peckham Knepper. She graduated from Paschal High School in 1943, where June had been a cheerleader, captain of the drill team and state champion tennis player. She was Honorary graduate of TCU and was enducted into the Alumni Hall of Fame. On June 29, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Burres West Garrison, Jr. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2016.
June wore many hats over her lifetime; she is remembered most of all for her fine job as Tarrant County Tax Assessor Collector where she served from 1984 to 2002, as first woman and republican to hold that office. Her foremost accomplishment was being best mother any four children could have, Cub Scouts and Campfire leader, PTA president and such a good example; seeing her Harris Hospital candy stripe dress, 52-year member of All Saints Episcopal Church, now a member of the Church of Christ The King and All Saints Church, Chairman of hospitality hosts for the Colonial Invitational Golf Tournament. She was the first woman president of Terpsichorean Club of Fort Worth, Riodotto and Farando Dance Clubs, Jewel Charity Ball, PEO Chapter AP, The Metropolitan Dinner Club of Greater Fort Worth, The Metropolitan Republican Woman's Club, Social Directory, All Saints Hospital Advisory Board, Charter Member of the Colonial Country Club, City Club and Pachyderm Club.
In 1981, June also ran for Texas State Representative. Of the many awards she received one that stands out was the People of Vision Award and Republican Key. She was a champion tennis player, playing all over the nation up until her 80's. June was beautiful inside and out. She loved her friends, employees and family. A friend recently said "Angel on Earth, Angel in Heaven" she will be greatly missed.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Burres W. Garrison, Jr; sister, Annette Dean and husband, Truman; and brother, Roy Knepper, Jr. and Jean Knepper.
Survivors: Children, June Garrison Carruth and husband, Johnny Bob, Dr. Burres W. Garrison, III and wife, Glenda, Jan Garrison Hiatt and husband, Winston and John Michael Garrison, Sr.; 10 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
