In loving memory of

Roy G. Skoglund Sr.
October 10, 1932 - June 16, 2018

On June 16, 2018, Roy Gunnar Skoglund, Sr. went to be at peace with his Savior at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, IA, shortly after his beloved Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals. Private family services will be held at a later date, along with a private family inurnment in the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown, IA, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.andersonfhs.com.

He was born on October 10, 1932, in Grovertown, IN, the son of Gustav and Maria (Hedlund) Skoglund. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a great man. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He built and ran two successful businesses: Royal Masonry and ReGiS Courier. But for all his success, kindness was his greatest asset. Roy treated everyone he met with dignity, respect, and kindness. And a joke. Always a joke. In fact, long before 'Dad Jokes' became a thing, Dad - or Papa - mastered the art. He was a joy to be around.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dolores (Barry) Skoglund; daughters Sharon Skoglund, Sandra (Bob) Zirkelbach, Kathy (Jim) Shelhamer; sons Roy Skoglund Jr. and Brenda Vitzthum, Randy (Kieta) Skoglund; granddaughters Chris (Blair) Holden and great granddaughter Annelise, Amy (Adam) Pickering and great granddaughters Tess and Hattie, Angela Zirkelbach, Cameron (Charlie) McGovern and great grandson Finnegan; and grandsons Robert (Katie) Zirkelbach, and Mark (Rebecca) Zirkelbach and great grandsons Hayden, Chase, and Evan. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Walt, Eric, Robert, and his sister, Ingrid.

"I'm so very sorry to see this. I lost touch with Roy and Dee. He was a good man and like a father to me. Heaven has certainly gained a good soul. Love to Dee. She is so special to me. Prayers for you all still. Its not easy losing your parent. God be with you."
