Kristen L. Peterson, 50, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away June 14, 2018. She was born January 18, 1968 in San Jose, CA to Courtney Oscar and Beverley Rae Peterson.
In addition to being a loving mother, grandmother, sister and daughter, Kris was a successful business owner, charity advocate and active community leader. Having left one sunny coastline of California for another in Florida, she made Punta Gorda home for her family. Kris managed both Coral Rock Cafe and the restaurant at Victoria Estates. She held a position with the March of Dimes before partnering with Don Schadt and expanding True Blue Pools. Kris was a member of the Charlotte County Chamber's Leadership Charlotte program class of 2001 and was a board member of the YMCA. She also co-chaired many local fundraising events such as Casablanca benefiting Habitat for Humanity, YMCA's Safari party, the Punta Gorda Block Party and The Florida International Airshow. Kris was instrumental in the introduction of Dollars for mammograms to her friends who worked together to develop the Bar Stool Open, which not only resulted in a 10-year relationship with DFM but also generated funds in support of Charlotte County Public Schools backpack program, the Adaptive Playground Project and the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition. In addition to these events she sponsored and attended many more local charity causes through her company's generosity and community outreach.
She is survived by her sons, David Peterson and his wife Brandy, Jonathan Gent and Tommy Bennett; grandchildren, Jacei Peterson, Sage Sanders and Izah Saldana; her brothers, Greg (Katherine) Peterson, Court (Liz) Peterson and Doug (Tamara) Peterson, her love for the past six years, Mario, as well as aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
A time of visitation will be held from 2:00pm till 4:00pm Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Kays-Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 635 E Marion Ave, Punta Gorda. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday June 23 at Hurricane Charley's in Punta Gorda from 5pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations in memory of Kris be made to Dollars for Mammograms.
