"Ainsleigh and I have wonderful memories of our time with Grandma Sally at the house in Euclid, but especially of our visits to the Florida condo every winter. We always looked forward to our week at Manasota Beach Gardens?walking to the beach, picking grapefruit, feeding Scrub Jays, and playing Sequence on Grandma?s homemade board. The condo was our second home and our memories there allow her fun loving spirit to live on through us. We will always miss her, but are grateful for having her in our lives as long as we did. "

Sally Lyons, 96, of Punta Gorda, Florida and formerly of Englewood, Florida passed away peacefully on June 17, 2018. She was born January 30, 1922 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania to Nicholas and Marjorie Verna Schall. She spent her formative years in Euclid and Cleveland, Ohio. Sally was an excellent singer and often accompanied her first husband, John "Jack" Monaghan while he played piano. Sally and Jack had three children together, one daughter passing away as an infant. Sally worked twenty-two years for General Electric, Nela Park Division, Cleveland, Ohio during those years, she raised her two children, Joan and John in Euclid, Ohio.
Many years later on September 9, 1972, Sally married Thomas Lyons. Sally and Tom bought a condominium in Englewood, Florida in April 1989, and eventually retired there. Sally and Tom had many happy years at Manasota Beach Gardens where they met wonderful friends, played in many golf leagues and traveled. Sally's two children, Joan and John and their children also have many years of fun memories of their visits to Florida.
Sally is survived by her children, John (Diana) Monaghan who reside in Chardon, Ohio and
Joan (Al) Delfino who reside in Punta Gorda, Florida, Grandchildren: Ainsleigh Monaghan of Chicago, Illinois, Ashley Monaghan of Chardon, Ohio, Evan Medsker of Carpentersville, Illinois, Hayley (Joe) McTigue of South Bend, Indiana and Brendan Medsker of Algonquin, Illinois. Sally's brother, Donald (Patricia) Schall of Port Charlotte, Florida; Nieces: Debbie Turner, Kerin Lehtonen, Katie Lovick, Betsy Street, Sandi Derheimer and Holly Mobberley.
A private Celebration of Life Service will be held August 3, 2018 at Manasota Beach Gardens, Englewood, Florida. In lieu of flowers, a memory garden to honor Sally was started at Manasota Beach Gardens, Englewood, Florida
Remembrances of Sally-
Grandma Sally was louder than life; always telling stories, bossing people around, while at the same time making sure everyone had what they needed to be happy. Grandma taught us many things like how to play some of her favorite card games or how to search for little shells in the sand that look like butterfly wings. Most of all she taught me that women are hard workers, and they can be strong and soft at the same time. ~Hayley
Sal was full life.She loved her golf. She was a good friend to me in my time of need.. We loved our Wednesday luncheons and of course our martinis' w/3 olives.. And we can't forget our Sunday ice cream runs, she would always say "punch it Margaret" so we would get there faster...We made each laugh, I will miss her. ~Carole
She and Tom bought the condo in 1989. John and our family were there It was very exciting for them. We spent a week with your mom every year in Florida until she left. We have many wonderful memories at Manasota Beach Gardens and also in Euclid. We were very involved in their lives. The topper was Sally 's 90th birthday What a celebration with family and friends. She will be missed but she lives in our hearts and memories. ~Diana Monaghan

"Sally ("sis" to me), was the oldest of us four, and in a way, the one who was the closest. She lived with us while her first husband Jack was away in the airforce during WW II . I often listened as she read the letters that had heavily blacked out words sent by Jack from overseas, and was very glad when he came home safe. Sally took care of myself and two other sisters when we lived in Euclid , Ohio. We often took sled rides down the streets when they were blocked off in the winter, and one of my earliest memories was on Sallys back as we sledded down toward the wooden saw horses that blocked the street. All she said was "hold on tight"........AND I DID! After the war, Mom, Dad, and I often went to visit them, and several times as Jack was playing the piano, Sally would join in with song. She had a very good voice and probably should have accompanied him more often. In later life, she and second husband Tom moved to Florida, as did my wife and I. We saw them often and several times accompanied them to the "Lock And Key " for dinner and drinks. She and Tom had many friends at their home at Manasota Beach Gardens and often joined them on trips, golf outings, and dinners. She and Tom were avid card and tile game players and would often play wirh their friends at MBG,. She was a great sister and I will miss her humor, smile, and love. I have always loved her and always will. God Bless you Sis. "
"Grandma Sally was a great woman! She was so lively and was never to busy to sit down and visit with everyone. I'm thankful I was able to spend a good amount of time with Sally while she was with us, even though we lived so far away. I hope that Sally and all of her friends and having a grapefruit in heaven! I'm sad she is gone but,I think she is in a better place now!"
"I have so many beautiful memories and not so beautiful memories of my Mom throughout our lives together. I/we often said we were sometimes like sisters arguing one minute, laughing the next. I will miss many things about Mom, her spirit, her laughter, her wit, even her opinions whether you wanted to hear them or not. She was always there when I needed help with my 3 children, visiting when each was born and always available to come and stay whenever I asked. Our family always looked forward to coming down to Florida every year and playing games & cards with Grama Sally. She could be strict at times but whenever it was time to leave Manasota Beach Gardens, her tears and my tears would flow but I always knew we would come back and see her again. In later years, when it was time to help Mom I jumped at the responsibility. I moved Mom up to Illinois where my husband, Al and I lived and we could "watch" over her. There were some major health issues Mom endured and one day when she had finished her Physical and Occupational Therapy she said "I miss Florida, I would like to go back". A couple years later her wish became reality and Al, myself and Mom eventually all moved to Florida. Al and I feel so blessed we could be with her and help her until the very end and I know she appreciated everything we did for her. I miss her terribly but I also know in my heart she is at peace and that comforts me every day. Love you Mom "
