Betty Jones

Weslaco- Betty Jones passed away at her residence. She was born on July 18, 1932, to Wesley Moses and Sybil Goates in Los Fresnos, Texas. She came from a large family, 2 brothers, Bill and Tom, and 3 sisters, Ruby, Margaret, and Norma. After graduating from Los Fresnos High School in 1949, Betty attended Abilene Christian University, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1953. A year later, she married the love of her life, Fred Jones.
Betty and Fred raised three sons and a daughter together and spent the rest of their lives in Mercedes. Betty was an English teacher at Mercedes High School for 26 years. She loved her students and she will be remembered by many for her love of children and teaching. One of Betty's favorite pastimes was reading. She was also a wonderful cook and she and Fred loved to travel all over the country. She was a great wife and mother, but her final joy was being a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Sybil Moses, brother, Tom Moses, sisters Ruby Milum and Margaret Kretz.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Fred Ray Jones Jr., sons, Steve Jones (Dawn), Brian Jones (Pat), and Larry Jones (Stephanie), daughter, Pamela Anderson (Don), siblings, Bill Moses (Pat) and Norma Mann, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson due in August.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2nd, from 4-8pm, family present 5-7pm at McCaleb Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 3rd, at 10 am, at Bridge Ave Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco.

Tributes
