Carole Jean Cross
August 3, 1932 - July 5, 2018
Carole Jean Cross passed away on July 5th, 2018, in IU Ball Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was the youngest of five children born to William Albert and Mae Tripp on August 3rd,1932, in Goreville, Illinois. Carole was six years old when her family moved to Muncie after the Great Depression. She attended Muncie Central High School and later earned her GED. With her outgoing personality, she formed many friendships that she cultivated throughout her whole life. She married the love of her life, Bob Cross, and their marriage of almost sixty years was an amazing example of love and respect. Their relationship is truly their legacy and continues to be a special inspiration to their family. She and Bob enjoyed traveling, dancing, golfing, dining, shopping, exercising, and concerts...always with an incredible network of friends who did life together. They were avid sports fans, cheering on the Bearcats, Hoosiers, and Pacers. Most of all, Carole's life passion was her family, which was demonstrated by her devotion of time, generosity, and advice. She raised two children, Lana and Mark, both Yorktown Tigers, and she was a terrific mother-in-law to Lana's husband Bobby Gillum. Carole was thrilled to be a grandmother to Brad (wife TyAnn) and Brandie (husband Justin) and also a great-grandmother to Ellisyn and Isaac Gillum, Kade, Kaylee, Brayden, and Rylan Oliver. Later in life Carole became an avid reader, faithful attender of grandkids' activities, and continued to nurture relationships with friends and family, notably her niece Teresa Story. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings (Vivian Jennings, Elmus Tripp, Helen Wilson, and Evelyn Story), and her husband. She will be remembered and missed by all those who knew her.
Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2018, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 West Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, Indiana 47304.
Family and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Elm Ridge Funeral Home.
