"To all of Gib's loved ones. Gib was one of the kindest, friendliest and genuine person you'd ever meet. I believe he was on the honor flight with my dad. The World War II guys are all in a class of their own. They loved their country and families. May fond memories fill the empty place in your hearts. With our deepest sympathy. Jim & Diana Ward"

"I started to work for Jack Van Wechel December 1976 and Gib was service manager. if i was 5 minutes late Gib would say " good afternoon Charles" and if he thought I was working too slow he would say " hurry up Mooty you're falling behind". I had a lot of respect for that man. "

Jim Peterson, 8th District Commander 2004-2005, De wrote on Jul 9, 2018:

"Very saddened to see Gib has gone to Post Everlasting. He told all of us, his District Commanders, "when you are representing me and The Iowa American Legion, you'll be in a suit and tie unless it's outside and hot then wear a short sleeve shirt and tie." I enjoyed our friendship and his leadership in his year as our Commander and after. My sympathy to Irmgard and family. Will be with you on Wednesday. Jim "
