Jack Thomas West
March 28, 1935 - July 6, 2018

STOUGHTON - Jack Thomas West passed away peacefully, at the age of 83, with family immediately at his side on Friday, July 6 2018. He was born on March 28, 1935 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to the late Guy and Mary Ann West. Jack most recently resided in Stoughton Wisconsin for 10 years. He resided in McFarland Wisconsin over 30 years. Both Jack and his wife Patti were pillars of the McFarland community and McFarland Lutheran Church. Jack had a very successful career in the battery development and manufacturing industry as a Analytical Chemist. He worked most of his career for Ray-O-Vac Corporation, headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin. Highlights of his career include leading the World Wide Analytical Laboratory, writing 10 US Patents and being a keynote speaker at a industry conference in Hawaii. Jack also started his own business by owning and operating up to 3 Donut Stores in the Madison area. As he started up these stores, he learned computer programming on his own and developed a complete software application package to run his stores. Jack's hobbies and interests included a love of boating and camping, wine making, gardening / landscaping, home projects, vintage cars (including his 1966 Thunderbird), playing bridge with his many friends and cooking. Jack had a strong faith and was active in the churches he attended. He was active in church choir, served on leadership boards and supported many church sponsored events. Jack miraculously recovered from a very rare liver disease in 2003. He had to work very hard to recover from that illness. Based on his recovery, he blessed his family and friends with 15 additional years of presence and love in their lives.

Jack is survived by his brother Gary (Flip) West and sister Patti West, daughter Linda (Paul) Ruscher, sons Charles (Susie) West, and John (Lin) West, grandchildren Christine Ruscher, Nathanial West, Timothy (Elin) Ruscher, Sara Ruscher and Ashley West, great grandchildren Josiah and Chloe Ruscher, Alina West. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Madelyn Patricia West (Patti), brothers Guy Jr and Lieutenant Colonial James West, and his parents Guy and Mary Ann West.

A memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday July 11, 2018 at MCFARLAND LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5529 Marsh Road, McFarland Wisconsin. Friends are invited to greet the family from 12:00 noon to until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.
