Gloria Austin

On Friday July 6, 2018 Gloria Austin passed away in Sunrise, Florida.

Gloria was born on February 15, 1938 in San Diego, California to James and Beatrice (Anderson) Shinn. She graduated from Mason City High School and then Mason City Junior College in 1958. Gloria was an elementary school teacher in Marble Rock, Iowa until she married. She married Robert Austin of Mason City, Iowa on March 4, 1961. Gloria and Bob had two sons, Kevin and Jeffrey. Gloria and Bob raised their family in Lake Elmo, Minnesota until Bob retired and they moved to Arkansas. First to Cherokee Village and then to Hot Springs Village. After Bob's passing, Gloria moved to Sunrise, Florida.

Gloria enjoyed her daily water aerobics class, going out to eat and traveling, especially family trips. Later in life, Gloria took up painting, especially sumi-e and watercolors.

Gloria is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Laurel Krahn) of Minneapolis and Jeffrey (Ronaldo Nova) of Sunrise, grandson Ronnie Nova of New Brighton, Minnesota, sister-in-law Norma Jean Swenson of Van Horne, Iowa, brother and sister-in-law Randy and Patty Austin of Manly, Iowa, sister-in-law Cindy Wurtzel of Mason City, brother-in-law John Austin of Mason City and god daughter Brandy Deford of Mason City and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents James Shinn and Beatrice Pool, brother James Shinn, father and mother-in-law O. Glen and Delma Austin, brother and sister-in-law Bill and Elaine Austin and brother-in-law Dean Swenson.

A celebration of Gloria's life will be held on Saturday, July 14th at Sunrise Lakes Phase 3, Satellite 3 (9161 Sunrise Lakes Blvd, Sunrise, Florida 33322) from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
