After graduation, she was asked to join Wa-Tan-Ye of which she is a lifelong member. She and her mom were known for their baked cinnamon rolls at the club's annual spring brunch.

She and her husband bought Hein's Bakery and the famous black bread recipe in 1971. It was a family affair. They retired from there in 1994. She enjoyed volunteering at church including the altar guild, greeters, ushering, and quilting. She and her husband enjoyed working in the church kitchen, making early Easter Sunday morning breakfast, German brunches for the baseball team, hosting Zion's 125th Anniversary German dinner and other special kitchen events.
