Marilyn J. (Burde) Jurgersen, 90, of Clinton, passed away, Sunday, July 1, 2018 at the Alverno.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Friday, July 6, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Jurgersen, Kent Jurgersen, Dan McLaughlin, John Lund, Jay Matthews, and Ken Winter. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Rexstead, Aaron Scott, Brent Jurgersen, John Martin, and Bob Fichlein. Visitation will be from 9:30am to the service time Friday at the church. Marilyn Jeanne (Burde) Jurgersen was born on March 26, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Carl G. and Helen L. (McGrath) Burde. She was a 1946 graduate of Clinton High School. After graduation, she was asked to join Wa-Tan-Ye of which she is a lifelong member. She and her mom were known for their baked cinnamon rolls at the club's annual spring brunch.
Marilyn worked in many area floral shops including DeWitt and Clinton. She was an assistant cook at the Curtis Company and Clinton Corn. She was also a bookkeeper at Elwood Dairy and Beier's Bakery. That is where she met her future husband, Reynold. He went off to the Korean War and they became engaged when he returned in 1953. They were married on September 19, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church.
She and her husband bought Hein's Bakery and the famous black bread recipe in 1971. It was a family affair. They retired from there in 1994. She enjoyed volunteering at church including the altar guild, greeters, ushering, and quilting. She and her husband enjoyed working in the church kitchen, making early Easter Sunday morning breakfast, German brunches for the baseball team, hosting Zion's 125th Anniversary German dinner and other special kitchen events.
Marilyn is survived by two sons: Steven (Cindy) Jurgersen and Douglas Jurgersen both of Clinton; niece Karen (Jerry) Bersche of Bloomington, Illinois and nephew: Eric Rexstead (Charisse) of Scotland; brother-in-law: Ronald Jurgersen of Clinton; sister-in-law: Roberta Jurgersen of Clinton; two special caregivers Laurie Sievers and Cindy Oestetreich; and her fur babies Fluffy and Cleo; and other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Donald, sister and brother-in-law: Betty and Al Rexstead, her brother-in-law Louie Jurgersen, her sister-in-law LaVonne Jurgersen and a very special cousin Nancy Fichlein.
