December 19, 1930 - July 13, 2018

Raymond L. Smith, 87, of Laurel, IA, went to Heaven on Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his family by his side in Marshalltown, IA. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at Laurel United Methodist Church in Laurel. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m., until the time of the funeral services, at the church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in rural Laurel. A memorial has been established. Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown has been entrusted with the arrangements. Raymond was born December 19, 1930, to H. Ray and Maida (Arney) Smith in Marshalltown. He graduated from Ferguson High School in 1948. From 1953-1955, Raymond served his country in the United States Army. He was united in marriage to Wanda Sietmann on July 27, 1955, in Hanau, Germany. Raymond was passionate about his faith, his family, and farming. He was a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church where he was a lay leader, trustee, Sunday School teacher, and played on the church fast pitch softball team. Raymond served on the school board, county extension council, and as a member of the Laurel Lions Club where he was a Warren Coleman Honorary Award recipient. He raised livestock and farmed in the Laurel and Ferguson area. Raymond was a loyal Iowa Hawkeye and New York Yankees fan. He enjoyed taking his family on camping trips out west every summer, playing cribbage, reading, golfing, fishing, collecting small-town Iowa coin banks, and attending auto-dealer auctions.

Raymond will be missed by his wife, Wanda; three children, Brent Smith of Laurel, Brenda (Jeff) Arnold of State Center, IA, Brad (Kathy) Smith of Cedar Rapids, IA; five grandchildren, Eli Smith, Dani (Andrew) Haskenhoff, Tanner Arnold, Sacora Smith, and Zachary Smith; two great grandchildren, Camden and Lennon Haskenhoff; a sister Deloris (Lynn) Zesch; a brother, Jack (Kathy) Smith; and a sister-in-law, Beth Keese. Raymond is preceded in death by a nephew, Kent Zesch, and a brother-in-law, Larry Keese.
