In loving memory of

Garald Keith Rubin
February 11, 1948 - July 26, 2018

Garald "Gary" Keith Rubin, age 70, of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, passed away at Rainbow Hospice in Johnson Creek on Thursday, 7/26/18. Gary was born on 2/11/48 in Oshkosh but grew up on a farm outside of Richland Center.
Gary graduated from Richland Center High School in 1967 and was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1968. He served in Germany when overseas. After an Honorable Army Discharge as a Specialist E-4th Class Infantry, Gary moved to Madison and worked in security for Centurion Security, International Security, American Police Services and the Old Methodist Hospital. Then Gary worked for the State of Wisconsin for 30 years, first on the UW-Madison Campus as a night watchman and then for the Physical Plant performing light maintenance and housekeeping. After 16 years Gary transferred to the Mendota Mental Health Institute where he mowed the grass and did snow removal. Gary retired in 2005.
Gary was a generous soul who, for years, carried $100 bills in his wallet to hand out whenever he met a person in need. Although self-taught and he didn't charge a fee, even for parts, Gary often fixed other's vehicles. Over the years Gary went to several churches in the Madison area. Gary was a member at City Church and previously at Sun Prairie's Living Water Church and had also attended services at Sun Prairie's Living Hope Fellowship (now Focus Church). Years earlier Gary was a Deacon at Madison's First Assembly of God on Northport Drive, located near his home, and volunteered there by fixing church vehicles and mowing the grass.
The most important thing in Gary's life was to read and understand God's Word so he could bring more souls to know Jesus. Gary practiced Spiritual Warfare and was a Prayer Warrior, praying to God to restore the health of others and doing battle against the demonic on behalf of people, churches, cities and nations.
Gary had a great smile. Everyone who met Gary liked him. Gary often did or said something silly causing everyone to chuckle or roar with laughter. Gary often expressed his appreciation for others, especially at church where he complimented the worship team for their music.
In more recent years, besides his devotion to his Biblical studies and wife Renee, the most important things to Gary included going to church, fishing and hunting, good food and a good strong cup of coffee, enjoying the antics of the birdies and squirrels outside of the living room window, watching the news, being fascinated by the lightening and "thunder boomers" and grabbing a Diet Coke or coffee at The Colonial Club, Sun Prairie's Senior Center, and saying hello to their staff and volunteers.
The prayers others said for Gary's recovery made a huge positive difference in Gary's ability to rebound, time after time, over his last 4 years of ever increasing and significant health issues and hospitalizations. Special thanks to:
* Dr. Leo Schug at Dean's Sun Prairie Clinic for the exceptional care he gave Gary and consistently patching Gary up.
* St. Mary's Hospital 5SW and 8SW staff for the good care they gave Gary during his 23 hospitalizations.
* St. Mary's Hospital & City Church Pastoral Care.
* UW Home Health staff for believing that Gary was like The Little Engine That Could in regaining his strength and walking abilities after each setback.
* Gail Brooks, Gary's Case Manager at The Colonial Club, for her ongoing support and assistance in locating resources.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Gyneth Ava (Gray) Griffin and Glen Herbert Rubin as well as in 2007 with the passing of his wife of 34 years, Karen Beth (Treptow) Rubin.
Gary is survived by his sons Steven Lee Rubin and Daniel Paul Rubin and his second wife Renee Ann (Nies) Rubin. Gary and Renee were married on 1/6/16 at Living Water Church and often referred to each other as "the love of my life." Gary had a love at first sight experience when Renee walked in the door at The Apostolic Church of Sun Prairie.
A Memorial Service will be held for Gary on Thursday, 8/9/18, at City Church, 4909 E. Buckeye Road, Madison. Visitation is from 3:30 - 5 p.m. Pastor Andrew Henderson will officiate the Memorial Service starting at 5 pm with dinner following at 6 pm in the lower level. Gary will be greatly missed. "Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never the same." Franz Schubert, 17th Century Austrian Composer.
