July 1, 1942 - July 27, 2018

Charles D. Steward, 76, of Rotonda West, Florida and formerly of Walbridge, Ohio passed away
in his home with his beloved wife Brenda at his side. Charlie was born July 1st, 1942 in Norfolk,
Virginia to Alvin Oaksmith and Helen Mooney Steward. He was preceded in death by his
parents and siblings- Cliff Steward, Joe Steward, and Sissy (Lori) Martinez. He is survived by
his wife, Brenda of 55 years and their children- Son, Chuck (Theresa) Steward - Grandchildren:
Heather (DJ) Merriman, Allison, Briana and David Steward of North Royalton, Ohio. Son,
Joseph Steward - Grandchildren: Joey and Sean Steward of Dayton, Ohio. Taylor, Alexxa,
Chance and Cole Steward of Sylvania, Ohio. Daughter, Nicole (Rick) Lindell - Grandchildren:
Sailor, River and Beau Lindell of Walbridge, Ohio. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of their
first Great Grandchild in August. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Charlie loved life and he spent his life doing things to make everyone else's life a little happier or
a little easier. He loved to feed everyone and entertain you with one of his silly stories or funny
jokes. If he got a giggle from you, he was happy.
Charlie loved coaching his sons' baseball teams and his daughter's softball teams. He had a way
of making each of the kids feel special and he let them know that each of them was important
and needed on his teams. He always had a story or funny joke to lighten the feelings of the kids
when they needed it. The little nicknames he had for them was his way of letting them know how
special they were to him. He loved giving the end of season parties too, that is where he got to
be silly with the players and of course, feeding everyone.
He was an avid sportsman and loved talking sports with you. He loved duck hunting, deer
hunting, fishing, and horse racing. He loved everything to do with the outdoors. He loved sports,
hunting, gardening and his pool. He so enjoyed sitting outside watching and listening to the rain -
plus "talking" to the wildlife here. Charlie enjoyed the poker games with his friends, not just
because he loved poker, but because he loved his friends and the laughter.
Charlie was a standout football player at Northampton High School earning the nickname "Shag
Nasty" and "Choo Choo Charlie" for his skills with the ball and his speed. He earned a football
scholarship to Chowan University, North Carolina.
Charlie retired from CSX Railroad in Walbridge, Ohio. He lived his dream of retiring in Florida
and he was so proud of the beautiful home he built there for his wife and family.
Charlie's dream was to also win the Lottery for his family, but we all hit something bigger than
the lottery because we had Charlie, Dad, Pops, Grandpa and Papa in our lives. He will forever be
loved and missed.
We would like to invite you to a Celebration of Charlie's life on August 12, 2018 at Faith United
Methodist Church, 111 Main St. Lucky, Ohio 43443 between the hours 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
