In loving memory of

Susan Marie Harris
June 28, 1949 - August 4, 2018

Susan Marie Harris, 69, of Sheffield, Iowa, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018, at her home in Sheffield. She was born June 28, 1949, in Mason City, Iowa, to Dale Philip and Luella Marie (Siems) Lahner.

Susan graduated from Sheffield-Chapin High School and then attended Surgical Assistant school in Minneapolis, receiving a two year degree.

Susan was united in marriage to Michael G. Harris on May 12, 1973, at the United Methodist Church in Sheffield.

She worked as a surgical assistant in the Hampton Hospital until she began her career with Sukup Manufacturing. Susan began in the Customer Service Department and loved her position within the company. She was able to use her medical background as the plant nurse for several years, as well. Susan worked for 12 years before starting her own refurbish business in the Main Street building where both her dad and Grandma Fern had businesses prior to hers. After five years of self-employment, Susan began at Sukup Manufacturing again and worked there until her retirement in 2013. Following retirement, she worked for Timeless Treasures, filling in as needed a few days each week. This was her "dream" retirement job.

Susan was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and the National Wild Turkey Federation. She was affiliated with the EUB/United Methodist Church. Susan enjoyed fishing, antiques, being outdoors, gardening and cooking. She was an animal rescuer and enjoyed many years of serving Meals on Wheels.

Susan was an independent, detailed person known for her generosity and care-giving. She was a loyal friend, great fishing partner to Mike and selfless sister who found any occasion to send a card or give to others.

Susan is survived by her husband Michael G. Harris of Sheffield, brother David (Nancy) Lahner of Boone, sister Jean (Mark) Brandt of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, sister Mary (Mike) Kranz of Clarion, brother Bill (Annette) Lahner of Sheffield, sister Anne (David) Foster of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, brother Peter (Andra) Lahner of Kansas City, Kansas, along with many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Dale and Luella Lahner, brother Stephen Lahner, in-laws Gerald and Shirley Harris and brother-in-law Patrick Harris.

Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society or Animal Rescue League of Iowa - Dogs.

A private family service will be held at a later date.

"Susan Harris was more than a friend to me. She was a beautiful person inside and out who did so many kind and generous things for me and so many others. I learned so much from Susan -- how to be there for others, not to wait to do good things because you might not get a second chance, and to share joy. I thank God for having Susan in my life and sharing so many good times with her-- work times, lunches, and road trips. She was truly a blessing, and I will miss her greatly. My love and prayers go out to Mike and the Lahner family. Diane Hughes"
