In loving memory of

Paul Jackson Scherrer
April 26, 1927 - August 7, 2018

Paul "Jack" Scherrer
4/26/1927 - 8/7/2018

Jack passed calmly at his Greenlake home on August 7, 2018 after a six-month battle with cancer. He was born in Masonville, IA and was the youngest of 10 children. Jack enlisted in the US Navy in 1944 and served honorably for 20 years. He was one of only a few pilot trainers that taught night-time celestial navigation and was stationed in Florida, Kansas, Missouri, and Washington before retiring at Sandpoint Naval Base in Seattle. Jack then worked at the US Post Office in Seattle as a mechanic. He retired from the Post Office after 22 years - earning a perfect attendance record for never missing a day of work and receiving a 42 year service award from the US Government.

Jack is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Ethel (Irmer) Scherrer. He is survived by his five children: Jody, Jeff, Jay, Jon, and Jeri; and, his 12 grandchildren: Jason, Sophie, William, Michael, Jeff, Maria, Eric, Stacie, Olivia, Amelia, Megan and Kyle; and 2 great-grandchildren: Kaia and Chloe.

Jack will be laid to rest August 17th at Washelli/Evergreen Cemetary with services at 2 PM followed by a short reception at Washelli.

Remembrances can be made to Northeast Iowa Food Bank (https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/neifb) or via mail to: Northeast Iowa Food Bank
PO Box 2397 Waterloo, IA 50704-2397. Jack fondly remembered them as the organization that "saved" his family via donations when they didn't have enough to eat.
