Arthur Fredrick Pankey
FORT WORTH-Arthur Fredrick "Bud" Pankey died peacefully in his sleep Monday, August 6, 2018 at the age of 97.
Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday, August 13, 2018 at Brown Owens & Brumley's Joe B. Brown Memorial Chapel.
Fred was born March 14, 1921 in Fort Worth, Texas to the late Alfred and Annie Laurie Pankey. He had one sister, Juanita Floyd. His early childhood was spent growing up in downtown Fort Worth at home on E. Belknap Street. His father owned a confectionery and sporting goods store where Fred would work and clean. He graduated from Paschal High School in 1939, then attended and graduated from Texas A & M University in 1942. He participated on the swim team and ROTC officers program. From there, he enlisted in the US Army to proudly serve his country during WWII from 1942 to 1946. He served as Infantry Unit Commander Captain, the 254th Infantry 63rd Division with the mortar unit that participated Rhineland and central Europe campaigns. He received numerous decorations and citations. After returning home, he married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Anne in 1946. Of that union of marriage they had four children. In 2016, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
Fred had worked with the oil exploration industry and would later become involved with steel and metal fabrication. His greatest passion was behind a cue stick playing billiards and spending many hours at Rusty's Billiards with all of his good friends on Camp Bowie.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anne; children, Michael, Patrick and Linda; two granddaughters, Michelyn Leigh Miteff and Sarah Pankey Brewer.
Survivors: Son, Stephen Pankey; grandson, Corby Miteff; granddaughters, Allison Miteff Dyer, Molly Brown and Julie Dold; and seven great grandchildren. Brown Owens & Brumley Family Funeral Home
