"Hey: Often we remember people we care about from the memories we have of them. Though I have known Ron for close to twenty years and remember much about him: how ornery and hardheaded he was how loud he could be how he could keep me on the edge of my seat with his humor and his look-you-in-eye-conviction of things he was passionate about including golf football baseball his heart Barb and especially his children. When we live our lives we can easily look back on stuff that we wish we could different; that’s natural. But Ron I have to tell you from my heart the legacy you leave with us your children really is something to be proud of. Parents can and will tell their children what to do but those of us that are parents know that children will most often learn by watching. They watched Ron work struggle play and raise a family. They watched him do things right some things wrong but mostly right. We who know Ron and Barb’s children would be hard pressed to find anyone funnier smarter more passionate or driven more successful in living (and with conviction) than his children including their spouses. He affected them too. He knows he did good. Way to go Ron. Way to go. And......thank you.Rest in PeaceDelo 1"

"I have only fond memories of childhood times with Mr. Veit and the family. This young red-headed farmboy was exposed to the real world and the big town of Maquoketa through time spent with Steve and the family. Mr. Veit drafted me on their little league team and taught me how to pitch. I had my first skiing experience when Mr. Veit took me and the boys to Chestnut Mountain. The boys also exposed me to about every sport imaginable especially great games of whiffle ball in their back yard! Mr. Veit was always so supportive with everything we did. My thoughts and prayers go out to Steve and the family. Thanks Mr. Veit for many great memories of my younger days. Rest in peace. Jason"

"A fond memory: I met Ron on the range at overland golf coarse with his son Steve. He proceeded to show me the WIND UP! (which was Ron's pattented swing in golf) a little unorthodox but WOW amazing results!. He tought his son Steve his new swing along with the split grip. Steve probably would have made a fortune with golf but Steve became a Skier instead. Ron's other son Tom also could not make Ron's golf moves famous because his pants always seemed too (heavy) when he played.Ron never followed the heard he blazed his own path. I am grateful to have met him and feel privileged to be friends with his Kids. ThanksRon"

Sherri Marceau wrote on Dec 14, 2006:

"It has taken me a few days to gather my thoughts and compose in my head what I wanted to express to all of Ron's family. I have such fun memories of Lisa's dad - he taught me how to drive a stick shift in the parking lot of the church. We drove that red Gremlin around in hundreds of circles before I got the hang of it. He was always upbeat always funny and always one of the kids rather than a parent. He called all of us Sister and I can still hear his husky laughter. Even though we knew he was ill and we knew he was in pain it's still so very hard. Dads are supposed to be around forever. I am thinking of all of you during this difficult time. Know that he would want you to remember the good times and that he is up in heaven laughing and hollering at the umpires!!May fond memories ease your pain-Sherri"

"Barb Ronelle Lisa Tom and SteveI was very sorry to hear of Ron's passing. He was so good to me and all the neighborhood kids when we were young playing baseball in your backyard. He was always trying to get me to play baseball instead of softball and spent hours teaching me how to pitch. He was a great guy. My thoughts and prayers are with you."

"BARB RONELLE LISA TOM AND STEVE: YOUR FAMILY IS IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS DURING THIS TIME. YOU HAVE MY SYMPATHY. I AM ELMER ROLLING'S GRANDDAUGHTER. AND DON AND MARY ANN ROLLINGS DAUGHTER. I REMEMBER THE TIMES THAT I STOPPED AT YOUR HOUSE WHEN YOU LIVED IN MAQUOKETA. A LOT OF THINGS HAVE CHANGED OVER THE YEARS BUT YOUR OLD HOUSE IS STILL THERE. IN SYMPATHY NO TIME ON EARTH IS LONG ENOUGH TO SHARE WITH THOSE WE LOVE OR TO PREPARE OUR HEARTS FOR GOODBYE. MAY TIME SOFTEN THE PAIN UNTIL ALL THAT REMAINS IS THE COMFORT OF MEMORIES AND THE LOVE YOU SHARED.AGAIN YOUR FAMILY IS IN MY THOUGHTS."
