Orville Freeborn, age 92 of Cincinnati, Iowa died Sunday, November 16, 2003 at Mercy
Medical Center, Centerville, Iowa.
He was born November 3, 1911, son of Minnie Belle Airie Freeborn and Charles Edward
Freeborn near Dean, Iowa. He grew up in Moulton, Iowa and Oakley, Kansas.
He married Marjorie Edythe Gradwell, who preceded him in death. He served in the
Navy in W.W.II from 1943-1945. He was a policeman and Centerville's Police Chief for
sixteen years. He worked as a carpenter, millwright worker, farmer and various other
jobs. He was a member of the Cincinnati Masonic Lodge # 504.
Surviving are his two daughters Iladean Oden and her husband Gene of Exline, Iowa and
Evaloy McDonald, Centerville. His sister Vivian Marvin of Moulton, and a brother Gene
Freeborn and wife Pauline of Floris, Iowa. Four grandchildren Maurice Dean Oden of
Ocita, CO., Phillip Eugene Oden and wife Terri of Exline, Martha Kalleen Watson and
husband Gary of Glenwood, MO, David Lee McDonald and wife Kristi of Corydon,
Iowa, nine great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his wife Marjorie, granddaughter Marla Ann McDonald
Ewing, his parents, two sisters Virgie Allen and Beulah Sweeden, a son-in-law Bill
McDonald, three brothers-in-laws Elva Allen, Bruce Sweeden and Mardell Marvin.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at the Thomas
Lange Funeral Home, Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley and the Masonic Lodge
officiating. Visitation will be from 1 PM until 2 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be
in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati, Iowa, with military service. A memorial has
been established to the Exline Community Center, and may be left or mailed to the
