"To Tom's Family, We met Tom about 15 years ago when we hired him to refinish a clock case that belonged to my very dear uncle. It was that project that gave me insight into who Tom was. He didn't merely fix the case, he repaired it with expertise and with love. Knowing how special it was to us, he made it special to him. Since that first project, Tom worked with us to restore several pieces of furniture that will, no doubt, become family heirlooms. We never saw Tom without a smile on his face. He glowed happiness and was extraordinarily proud of his family. He enjoyed telling us of his son?s achievements and we enjoyed listening. I can?t say that we were friends in the traditional sense of the word, but I can?t help but feel that everyone somehow became Tom?s friend. We reacted viscerally to reading of his passing. It?s hard to understand why such a loving, talented and caring man was taken so young. We hope that you, his family, will take comfort in the fact that Tom meant so much to so many people. We will remember him almost every day when we look at his handiwork in our home. Tom left an incredible legacy, one that we would all be wise to try to emulate. G-d bless you and comfort you in your time of grief. If it?s not too presumptuous of me, I would like to share a poem I wrote about my father. Remembering My Father At first, it was easy to remember his face, his voice, his warmth and the way his arms felt around me. I could even remember the smell of him. I mourned him easily; easily for the pain was so sharp that I carried it with me always--- into each waking moment and even into my dreams. Then time passed and I had to close my eyes tightly to see the outline of his face. And I was grateful for the photos that helped me to remember. Soon the sound of him in my mind faded but I could still play the recordings of him and still hear the song of his prayers, his childhood stories and sometimes our laughter. Time was a healer, but I was angry, because there were minutes and hours and sometimes even days that didn't bring back memories of him. Once it was so easy to touch the anguish that came with knowing that he was gone. Remembering was so simple; a part of every breath of me. Softly, slowly, silently, I came to know that he had bonded into the very fiber of me. I would remember him forever, for the ache had found a home in my soul. With fond regards, Judy & Jon Lewis Kingston, NY "
