In loving memory of

Kenneth David Adams, Jr.
July 19, 1936 - September 7, 2018

Kenneth David Adams, Jr., 19-Jul-1936, stepped into eternity after a lengthy illness. Kenney is the first-born son of Kenneth David and Velma Victoria Adams, Sr. Kenney was a proud IPS #17 and Crispus Attucks High School ((CAHS) Class of 1954) graduate where he was a standout in sports. He pursued higher education at Martin College while rearing his two youngest sons as a single parent and as a full-time employee of Ford Motor Company (retiring 1997 with 31 years of service). He was an eclectic soul and loved Rock, Bluegrass, R&B and Gospel; he could recite Kahil Gibran's Prophet as well as Desiderata verbatim. Even during illness, he was kind, hopeful and appreciative.

Kenney was very proud of his alma mater and served as the CAHS Alumni Class of 1954 president for several years. Kenney was a founding member of the Lockefield Civic Organization and co-hosted the annual Lockefield Picnic from 1986 until his illness prevented his participation in 2017. His other civic participation included NAACP, Near-North Neighborhood Association liaison, Ford-UAW Retirees, CAHS Letterman's Club, the National Crispus Attucks Alumni Association officer, Saint Monica's Greeters and mobile Communion Committee and the Citizen Police Complaint Board.

Kenney's essence was his family; his mantra: "First there is God and then the Family, and the Family and the Family". He lovingly participated in in his children and grandchildren's activities, with 7 children and 18 grandchildren, it was a full-time joy. He invested praise, encouragement and importance to Kenneth David III, Kelly Ann (Doug Banks), Keith Darnell (Michele Andrea), Kimberly Joy (Greg Stowers), Karyn Denise (Jimmy Graves), Kendale Lewis (Kimberly), Kyle Aubrey (AJ) and stepson, Terry Lee Childs (Arie). His eighteen grandchildren, great granddaughter and step granddaughter are his legacy and fulfillment. Kenney also held special esteem for his brother, John Andrew (Gerri) and sister, Kathy Jo. His extended family include friends and cousins "from way back". He is already missed by family and friends.

Kenneth David Adams, Jr. passed on 07-Sep-2018 at his home where he was lovingly attended to by his wife of 22 years, Carole, with assistance from his children. The family was wisely advised by caregivers Dr. Scott Farnham and staff members (especially Amy Miller and Marla Ranft); Dr. Brian Ulmer (especially Michelle Rhodes), Dr. Jon Simala, Dr. Ashwin Ravichadran and their respective staff. Kenney's homecare for over a year was Tom Guerrieri, RN, providing security, friendship and care to both Kenney and Carole. The family appreciates and thanks you all for a job well done.

Please join us in his Homegoing Celebration, Thursday September 13th, 1pm at Friendship MBC. There will be no public viewing per Kenney's instructions; however, family reflections and tributes will begin at 11am and all are welcome to share a story or tribute.
