Thelma Leona Elliott
February 14, 1923 - September 9, 2018

Muncie-Thelma Leona Elliott, 95, passed away on September 9, 2018. She was born February 14, 1923, the eldest daughter of Frank and Mabel Van Horn, Medford, Indiana
Thelma liked to tell the story that as a young girl her mother would wave a kerchief to stop the train to ride in to town. That was small town living. She attended Center School. Eventually they settled back in Muncie in the 1960's. That was when Thelma started working at Ball State University in housekeeping, then in dining, until retiring as a breakfast cook at LaFollette in 1985. She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, traveling, games, cooking, crocheting, gardening and word search puzzles.
Thelma is survived by daughters, Sally (Norman) Savage, and Ila Verneman; daughter-in-law, Josie Verneman; grandchildren, Norman, Robert, Jeanette, Jerry, Cesar, Stephanie, Evert and Jennifer; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister, Sarah Richards.
Thelma was proceeded in death by husbands, Evert Verneman and Guss Elliott; and good friends Tom Huber and David Smith. She was proceeded in death by her children, Rose Verneman, Evert Verneman and her siblings, Homer Van Horn and Ila Jones.
The family wishes to thank Lifestream Services; Troy with At Home Specialized Senior Care; along with the special caregivers over the last ten years, Bridget and Sandy, who made it possible for Thelma to stay at home. Thank you also to the staff of The Woodlands who cared for Mom with kindness, respect and love, in the last few months of life.
