"Uncle Gene was definitely one of a kind! He always had me laughing, he didn?t have a filter when he spoke. He spoke his mind and didn?t care who you were. Was always giving me shit every time he saw me. He was a very good, loving and caring person. He was always there to help anyone if they called on him to do so. I was blessed to be adopted into this family by Owen ?Cowboy? Bell, I am Owen?s adopted daughter. I will never forget all of the memories I have had with this family! He will be missed dearly. "Gene was my very good friend & my boss for a few weeks of painting when I was in a bind & needed money. He was a man that cared too much. It was easy for me to see cuz he tried to hide it. Keeps us sensitive people from being taken advantage of. Even so Gene offered to help a lot of people in his life. I know he did me & really barely knew me at the time. He always made me laugh & often made me think. He helped a better man. I'll never forget Gene Bell."

"April and I are tenents at MPA. Kelly Darr was our landlord for 9 years in Anamosa, and now here at MPA. Years ago I also worked with Libby at the Monticello Nursing Home when my ex wife and I were still together. My wife April and I moved into MPA a couple months ago and this is how we met Gean. April and I had just had a 3 hour long talk with him the Thursday prior to his passing. He had fallen outside and scraped his elbow, and April and I were not leaving until we knew he was okay. I helped Mike do some lifting for him and then we spent some considerable time chatting. I am glad to have gotten that time however fleeting and short it now seems. I am glad I got, and spent the time getting to know him after moving out here. Still, I wish there could have been more. When a person like him leaves, you are left with the feeling that you missed something truly special. Something amazing you have only begun to understand. We will miss you sir."
