Norman Stephens

Norman Leroy Stephens, age 83 of Centerville died Wednesday morning, November 29, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.

Norman was born May 24, 1923 the son of James and Josie (Madigan) Stephens in Centerville, Iowa. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1942. After graduation Norman enlisted into the United States Army from 1942-1946. He was in the Battle of Ardennes and helped with liberate Auschwitz and received three bronze stars. In 1947 he married Rose McConville. Norman was a self-employed painter and was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Norman is survived by his wife, Rose; two children, Pat (Connie) Stephens and Mike (Vicky) Stephens both of Centerville, Iowa; five grandchildren, Joe (Lila) Stephens of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dan (Amy) Stephens of Ankeny, Iowa, Ryan (Amy) Stephens of Moulton, Iowa, Mike (Denise) Stephens of Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, and Suzzanne (Don) Hillyard of Newton, Iowa; and twelve grandchildren, Madaline, Nick, Derek, Lexus, Haley, Mickey, Connor, Josie, Madisan, Cydney, Megan and Jason. Norman was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Ray Stephens and Carl Stephens.

Mass of Resurrection will be held 11:30 AM Friday, December 1, 2006 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church, Centerville, Iowa with Fr. Ron Will C.PP.S officiating. Burial will follow at the Oakland Cemetery, Centerville, Iowa. A visitation will be held all day Thursday at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home and the family will be present from 6-8 PM with a scripture service beginning at 6 PM. A memorial has been established to the Mercy Hospice or the St. Mary's Catholic Church and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA 52544.
