Mary Blevins

Mary Katherine Daugherty Blevins, age 82, of Centerville died December 6, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center, Centerville.

Mary was born September 14, 1924, the daughter of Lenard and Madeline (Chancellor) Daugherty on a farm in VanZant, Kentucky. Mary's mother died a few weeks after giving birth so, Mary was raised by both grandparents, Peter B. and Lillie Daugherty, William and Mary Chancellor and step-mother Edna Wells Daugherty. She attended Ellworth Country School in Illinois, and Merna School in McLean County, Illinois. Mary attended Towonda Baptist Church in Illinois as a young girl. She married Winfield Mahlon Blevins in January 29, 1945. Mary worked for several hospitals including St. Joseph Mercy Hospital and Mercy Medical Center which she retired from both. She worked at several schools and cooked at the dormitory for Centerville Community College. She also worked at Baxter Box until it closed, the Golden Age Care Center, the Appanoose County Court House, was a sitter for the elderly until her retirement two years ago. She volunteered her time to many organizations including Care Centers.

Mary is survived by two sons, Jesse (Maria) Blevins Sr. of Centerville, IA and Waymon (Bonnie) Blevins of St. Peters, MO; three grandkids, Jesse Blevins Jr. of Stillwater, OK, Gina (Tim) O'Donnell and Jennie Weiser both of St. Charles, MO. Five Great grandchildren, Tim Jr. O'Donnell, Melanie O'Donnell, Gabriel O'Donnell, Virginia Weiser and Ronald Weiser Eight brothers and sisters, Roy Daugherty of Nanjemoy, MD, Jesse Daugherty of Cedar Rapids, IA, Edith (Louis) Lira of Numa, IA, Ernie Daugherty of Northwood, IA, Merle (Lucille) Daughterty of Vinton, IA, Beverly Beer of Spirit Lake, IA, Vernon (Colleen) Daugherty of Centerville, and Harry (Carol) Daugherty of Plano, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents Lenard and Madeline Daugherty, her grandparents Peter B. and Lillie Daugherty, William and Mary Chancellor, step-mother Edna Wells Daugherty and a brother James Daugherty.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, IA. Friends may call the Thomas Lange Funeral Home Friday from 8AM-8PM with the family present from 6-8 PM. A memorial has been established and may be left at or mailed to the Thomas Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, IA 52544.
