Mary was born in Canton, Illinois. Her family moved to Rathbun when she was a toddler and later moved to Centerville where she has resided ever since. Mary had worked at the telephone company before marrying Robert on December 31, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa.
She was a member of the Centerville Golf and Country Club, Tri-T, PEO Sisterhood Chapter KA and the MXL Society. As an avid volunteer in the community, she gave her time to the Tri-T loan closet and the Hospital Auxiliary. Mary was a life member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mary was an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed "antiquing" through homes and barns or at auction sales to find the "diamond in the rough." She had a keen eye for quality and enjoyed being able to find a bargain.
Mary also enjoyed her time spent as an artist - whether it be sewing her daughters' clothes or challenging herself to learn and perfect the arts of macramé, crochet, knitting, and crewel work. She won multiple art prizes in a needlework show in Centerville for her cross-stitch.
She was a friend to many and will be sadly missed. A special thank you from the family to the employees of Mercy Medical Center, the dietary staff, and Long Term Care for their help and support. Also Hospice of Southern Iowa.
Mass of Resurrection will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Timothy Guthridge officiating.
